Hudson Cooper Search, a recruitment services company, shared research and anecdotes on boomerangs in #construction. Specifically, a story of how an employee at a large construction firm left for a higher-paying job, but later returned with enhanced expertise and loyalty after realizing his previous employer was the better fit. Boomerang hires are becoming more prevalent across different industries. Our benchmarking report has repeatedly shown year over year an average of 8% of hires are rehires, and this article discusses research by Visier showcasing 28% of hires can be rehires (or 25% internationally). However, according to LinkedIn's economic graph, boomerangs in construction are only 1.7-2% on average. Our case study with Bechtel Corporation showed that with a strong corporate alumni strategy, platform, and consistent engagement, that boomerang number can be 25%. With burnout, a lack of learning opportunities, and AI pressures driving job dissatisfaction, the anticipated "#GreatStay" in 2024 might not be as solid as experts predicted. LinkedIn and Microsoft's latest data surveying 31,000 individuals across 31 countries reveals that more people want to quit their jobs in the year ahead than in 2021 (the year of #thegreatresignation). For the US? "85% of professionals in the US are eyeing up a new job this year." However, this could be good news for some companies who lost talent in 2021/2022. "Those who switched jobs in 2022 are now reporting being less satisfied at work than those who stayed put." 80% of those who quit in the Great Resignation now regret it, and may be looking to go back to previous companies seeking better work-life balance.
