This marks the final step in the legislative process, bringing new rules into EU law that will take effect 18 months after publication in the Official Journal. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀: 👉 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀: From 10% for contact-sensitive non-PET plastic by 2030 to 65% for single-use plastic bottles by 2040. 👉 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: On-pack labelling will now include material composition, recycled content, and sustainability details. 👉 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Industry players must minimize packaging weight, volume, and substances of concern like PFAS in food-contact materials. Beyond compliance, this Regulation presents challenges for the industry, including increased administrative demands regarding data handling and tracing. With R-Cycle, we offer a turnkey tracing solution for packaging to efficiently gather and provide all PPWR-relevant information. 👉🏻 We asked Gian De Belder who served as Chair to the AIM - European Brands Association 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝟮.𝟬 Leadership Team: 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘀𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴? 💬 𝗚𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿:  “We must not only ensure that packaging is recyclable, but also that waste disposal facilities are able to identify recyclable pieces and feed them into monofraction processes to obtain high-quality recyclates. Within the large-scale project 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝟮.𝟬 by 𝗔𝗜𝗠 - 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, we are working on exactly this challenge together 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗥-𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲. 𝗔 𝗠𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆:  𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 (𝗡𝗞𝗪𝗦) Last week, the 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘁 approved the National Circular Economy Strategy (NKWS) – a crucial step toward achieving a Sustainable and Circular Economy. Of course, it could be debated whether certain aspects should be handled differently. However, it’s important to recognize that a strategy like this is always a compromise among diverse interests and contributors. That’s why, especially in times like these, we choose to celebrate the positive: an important step forward has been taken! A special thank you to Federal Minister Steffi Lemke (Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz, nukleare Sicherheit und Verbraucherschutz (BMUV)), State Secretary Dr. Bettina Hoffmann, and Dr. Florian Kammerer for persistently driving this challenging process forward, engaging a wide range of stakeholders along the way. We at 𝗥-𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 are proud to have been 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 for the Round Table for Plastics and to have been able to make a contribution through the participation of Dr. Benedikt Brenken. Our primary focus was to ensure that the critical role of the digitalization of value chains for the circular economy was firmly established in the strategy. While a detailed analysis of the strategy would exceed the scope of this post, we want to highlight one key aspect: Chapter 4.2, “𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆”, which recognizes digitalization as a priority for transformation: "𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻.
