"There is an urgent need for Europe to build more digital champions!” was the introduction to our panel session at DLD Conference in Munich, yesterday. Who would disagree on that? For me, the question is not IF we should secure sovereignty and competitiveness of the digital landscape in Europe, but HOW to do so and within a very short timeframe. I am deeply convinced that the concept of #Eurostack, that Francesca Bria presented passionately, are exactly what we need – in theory. The important point is now to gain speed and momentum to bring it to life. If this takes another 10 years, we will not succeed on a global level. We need the change now. Don’t get me wrong: After all, the conferences motto was “future positivity”. So where do we draw optimism from? It’s positive examples like the European approach to supercomputing. Thank you @Renate Nikolay (European Commision) for your outlook on the European Commission’s plans in the field of "Industrial AI" as with this concept we are bringing together European strength with tech leadership. This is so relevant for industry champions like Rittal GmbH & Co. KG, Eplan and the whole Friedhelm Loh Group. There, we can really make a difference and catch up against the dominance of US and Asian player in the classical AI field. So let’s turn the solution mode on. How do we change the game? 💡 We need to focus on strategic thinking and on allocating resources in a strategic and focussed way. 💡 We need to combine new technologies with the knowledge of European industry leaders. Why is it not possible to combine AI with industrial knowledge we have built over the past 6 decades in Germany and all of Europe and use this spike to build and industrial AI lighthouse and strategic distance? 💡 We need to change our mindset. We need to learn to invest into something that bears the risk of failing. Dare to try! Think about how the German family-owned businesses kickstarted our industrial prosperity more than 50 years ago. Now it is time to move forward in the same courageous manner but with of focus on new tech. What is clear: We cannot wait to get things done. I see a great deal of potential for innovation at the countless family-owned companies in Europe if they are given the opportunity and support.
