“This project is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) supports this initiative on the basis of a decision adopted by the German Bundestag."
SF4B includes activities for research, capacity-building, stakeholder consultations, design of a proto-type, knowledge and experience exchange between the EU and the two Latin-American countries. The results will be documented and publically disseminated.
SF4B’s objective is to support the mobilization of capital for the protection, restoration, and sustainable use of biodiversity and ecosystems in Brazil and Colombia while reflecting on the experience of the evolving EU sustainable finance taxonomy. SF4B will work actively with governments, the financial sector (public and private), businesses, and other relevant stakeholders interested in or depending on the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems. The implementing organizations will actively engage with them to guarantee long-lasting results while benefiting from the capacity-building activities.
The project will contribute by shifting capital from “business as usual” (BAU) to sustainable finance ac- activities by generating knowledge and incentivizing investment in biodiversity. Moreover, in Brazil, SF4B will critically assess the upcoming EU Taxonomy for biodiversity to check suitability and the need for adjustments to fit the domestic context. In Colombia, the focus will accompany the formulation and piloting of the green taxonomy from the biodiversity perspective.
