  • Two hours. That's all it takes to come up with a solid sustainability strategy that unlocks growth and reduces harm of your IT infrastructure or cloud company. At our recent Amsterdam workshop on "Turning values into action," we demonstrated that developing a good strategy relies on two things: 🪢 deep understanding of the problem ⚡ strong principles based on values or regulation & national goals We also showed that when providers operationalize values of transparency, sustainability and local impact into their strategy, they are more likely to create lasting benefits for society, the environment and the local economy 🌱 Big thank you to everyone who showed up on the workshop – stay in the loop for more in-person events in 2025!

  • Thank you to everyone who joined us for our event "Empowering Sustainability, Transparency, and Regional Impact in the IT Cloud & Infrastructure Market." ✨ We shared some insights from our surveys, hosted two incredible panel discussions, and explored how sustainability, transparency, and local impart are being operationalized in the IT & cloud infrastructure market. Here are some of the key takeaways: 🔎 Transparency remains a big challenge, but also one of the greatest opportunities for growth and more sustainable digital infrastructure. 🌱 Sustainability is beginning to be implemented, but clear criteria and standards are needed for the entire digital infrastructure. 🏘️ Local impact is crucial and can help regional providers differentiate themselves from global players. A huge thanks to our amazing panelists! And a special thank you to critical infrastructure lab for providing us with the perfect venue for this event! Let's keep pushing forward and working together to make sustainability, transparency, and local impact the foundation of the IT & cloud infrastructure market! 🌏

  • We are excited to announce our incredible lineup of provider panelists for the event on October 15th in Amsterdam! Join us as we dive into discussions on how digital infrastructure providers are bringing transparency, sustainability, and local impact to their operations. 🌱 Let us introduce Cara Mascini, Chief Sustainability Officer at Switch Datacenters. With over 25 years in the industry, Cara has transformed Netflix's CDN infrastructure, founded EdgeInfra, and shaped the digital landscape at Eurofiber Group and AMS-IX. Cara’s technical expertise and strategic vision make her a powerful voice in the conversation about sustainability in digital infrastructure. Next on our panel of providers is Herke Plantenga, CEO of NovoServe. With a background that includes founding Virtu (a data center company later sold to Equinix), restructuring the German subsidiary of Leaseweb, and founding NovoServe in 2015, Herke's mission is clear: driving efficiency in computing and storage, with a vision to make these utilities more energy-efficient. His ultimate goal? To see AWS build its services on NovoServe’s infrastructure! We will also be joined by David Kohnstamm, co-founder, resident thermodynamics expert, and Chief Sustainability Officer at Leafcloud, where his expertise in servers and thermal dynamics plays a pivotal role in shaping the company's vision and the design of Leaf sites. His work focuses on transforming server heat into a reusable resource, leveraging his background as an engineer with a passion for building and innovation. His innovative approach continues to reshape the future of sustainable cloud solutions. For more information about the event, click the link below in the comments. • 🌍 What does "Green IT" really mean? 🌱 You’ve probably seen the term “green” thrown around a lot lately—especially in tech. But let’s be real, “green” has become more of a marketing buzzword than anything concrete. So, what does Green IT actually stand for? At the SDIA, we take inspiration from the Radboud Centre for Green Information Technology, defining Green IT as: "Energy-efficient hardware (greening of IT) and smart software solutions that contribute to the sustainable development goals (greening by IT)." In simple terms, it’s about making both hardware and software environmentally sustainable. 💻🌱 But let’s not get lost in jargon. True Green IT isn’t just about slapping an “eco-friendly” label on tech. It’s about innovative solutions that go beyond energy efficiency—reducing carbon emissions, promoting reuse, and tackling the entire lifecycle of our digital tools. San Murugesan once said it best: sustainable software should “benefit the environment by improving energy efficiency, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, using less harmful materials, and encouraging reuse and recycling.” At the SDIA, we push this further by combining sustainable hardware with sustainable software to create a truly holistic approach. 💡 The challenge? Shifting from mere marketing to real action. We need to make sure that when we talk about "green" in tech, we’re talking about tangible, measurable change—not just feel-good slogans. Let's spark a discussion: What does Green IT mean to you? How can we push the industry beyond buzzwords? 👇 #GreenIT #SustainableTech #DigitalInfrastructure #SDGs #EcoInnovation
