ADAPTING TO THE FUTURE: NATURE’S RESILIENCE IN A CHANGING CLIMATE As Boris will soon enter the Southern Ocean and show his resilience, we invite you to learn how ecosystems like coral reefs and fire-prone forests are resilient too and why safeguarding their adaptability is vital for the future of our planet. 🌱
Info
TEAM MALIZIA is a professional sailing team, taking part in the worlds biggest sailing races. We carry the message “A Race We Must Win” and the United Nations SDG wheel on our sails as a symbolic message and narrative around the fight against climate change and for ocean health. Team Malizia’s mission is to further scientific ocean research, with the help of a SubCTech ocean sensor originally installed on Seaexplorer - Yacht Club de Monaco in 2018 and updated in 2020. Since sailors are the first witnesses to the overall impact of man on this essential and fragile ocean environment, the time is no longer for observation, but for action. That is why we have created our innovative sustainability programme “My Ocean Challenge” that is supported by UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) and benefits from the support of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

Raising awareness for #Ocean and #climate protection is embedded in everything we do. Through our A Race We Must Win - Climate Action Now! mission, we combine the adventure of sailing with education and science, gathering invaluable Ocean data from some of the most remote areas on Earth. 🌍 But how important is the data we collect? How do scientists use it, and what can they understand from it? And is it really that important that Malizia - Seaexplorer collects CO2 measurements from the same regions over and over again? Isn’t one dataset enough? 👀 In a recent conversation, oceanographer Dr. Léa Olivier (AWI) and our Head of Communications Helene Katz dive into why this data is so crucial for the scientific community and the fascinating insights researchers have already uncovered from it! 🎥 Use the time between two #racetracker updates to hear from them in our latest video and learn something fascinating about the Ocean! 🌊 👉 https://lnkd.in/dJKSFAXv #oceandata #climateaction #aracewemustwin

🌍 The Vendée Globe kicks off ! ⛵️🏁 Thrilled to be here at the starting line, continuing my work with TEAM MALIZIA as they set sail in the Vendée Globe, carrying the dual mission of adventure and climate research. While racing solo around the world, Boris Herrmann is also collecting invaluable CO₂ data in some of the most remote ocean regions, just as he did in the last Vendée Globe. This data has already made an impact, with CO₂ measurements from The Ocean Race feeding directly into the 2024 Global Carbon Budget – vital to understanding the ocean’s role in absorbing carbon and buffering climate change. This partnership between science and sport exemplifies the spirit of climate action and exploration. Can’t wait to see the discoveries ahead as we race not only to the finish line, but for the future of our planet! 🌎💙 Let’s gooooo Boris ! 🖤 Peter Landschützer Toste Tanhua 📷 TEAM MALIZIA | Ricardo Pinto | JEAN-MARIE LIOT #VendeeGlobe #TeamMalizia #ClimateAction #OceanScience #GlobalCarbonBudget #RaceWeMustWin #Sailforscience
