🌍 Energized & Inspired: Reflections from NECE Festival 2024 in Tirana, Albania What an incredible experience sharing Ray's Blog's (https://lnkd.in/g62wAVRA) gamified approach to media literacy at the NECE Festival 2024!  The festival's theme of "BORDERS" couldn't have been more relevant to our mission at Classroom Adventure of making fact-checking skills accessible across cultural and educational boundaries. During our panel "Facts and Contexts Matter," I had the privilege of talking about how Ray's Blog is transforming media literacy education through gamification. We're reaching over 7,000 students across Japan, Taiwan, and more, proving that fun and engagement know no borders when it comes to fighting misinformation. I'm deeply grateful to my fellow panelists who brought such diverse perspectives: Anna-Veronika K., CEO of Kunsht, who held the Fakeless exhibition and showcased their engaging "Unlock My Phone" game (https://lnkd.in/gEv2S_85), demonstrating creative approaches to media literacy education Billion Lee, Director of Cofacts, who's pioneering community-driven fact-checking through their innovative chatbot solution Yubeen Kwon, a brilliant graduate researcher at Seoul National University, sharing critical insights on the ethical challenges surrounding AI chatbot Iruda in Korea Hui-An Ho, from Taiwan Factcheck Center, who connected us all, and even talked about the Youth Verification Challenge, taking place this December. I would also like to specially thank Anja Troelenberg, Hanna Ramezani from Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung / Federal Agency for Civic Education and Leslie Klatte from Goethe-Institut e.V. for their excellent organization and the entire NECE team and THE CIVICS Innovation Hub team for creating this vital platform for dialogue! This festival reinforced my belief that making fact-checking fun and accessible is key to building a more informed and resilient digital society. Looking forward to continuing these important conversations and expanding our impact globally! #NECE2024 #MediaLiteracy #FactChecking #EdTech #GameBasedLearning #FightingMisinformation

On day two of the NECE Festival: BORDERS at Piramida Tirana, over 200 participants gathered to address the complex realities of borders—geographical, social, digital, and ecological—and the challenges they pose. Key takeaways included: The urgency of addressing climate change across borders, with civil society playing a pivotal role where governments face limitations. Adaptable, locally tailored solutions are crucial, and reconnecting with nature can inspire the younger generation to act. True digital and media literacy requires more than networks; genuine collaborations, particularly with schools and grassroots organizations, are essential for lasting impact. Migration systems often fall short, balancing control with human rights. Effective integration policies must counter divisive narratives and offer benefits for both migrants and host communities, while addressing the brain drain in countries of origin. Community stories highlighted the power of citizen engagement, showing that thriving communities are built on trust, diversity, and active participation. Erida Curraj hosted an engaging workshop on industrial heritage and borders, bringing together local and European perspectives to discuss the revival of industrial heritage. The session explored how preserving and revitalizing industrial sites can bridge cultural divides and foster community connections, emphasizing shared history and collaboration across borders. The third and last day of the NECE Festival: BORDERS marked a special end, but also – a special beginning. It’s impossible to capture the depth of experiences and insights from all the speakers and participants in a single post. Over the coming weeks, we’ll share the wisdom and key takeaways gained during these three transformative days. For now, we want to leave you with two powerful messages from Elif Güney Menderes that truly resonated with us tonight: 🌄 Hope is not a fleeting sentiment nor a passive wish; it is a discipline – a deliberate act of seeing possibilities amid constraints. It is the persistent thread that stitches broken dreams into a collective vision. Hope compels us to move, not because the path is clear but because the act of moving itself creates the road. It invites us to imagine a future that does not yet exist and reminds us that transformation is neither instant nor individual; it is a shared endeavor, seeded in resilience and nurtured in action. 💜 A network is a web of contacts – functional, fleeting, transactional. It buzzes with activity but rarely lingers to ask, "How are you, truly?" A community, however, is rooted. It is the soil where trust grows, where shared stories deepen the bond between strangers, and where care transcends mere utility. A network connects minds, but a community binds hearts; it is the difference between knowing someone’s name and knowing their struggle. In times of crisis, networks dissipate like fog, but communities remain, steadfast as anchors in turbulent seas. Let us not build for speed alone, but for endurance – for a world in need of lasting solidarity. THE CIVICS is privileged to lead NECE – Networking European Civic Education – and to host its hallmark event, the annual NECE Festival, but we are even prouder to see this network growing into a community. We can’t wait to welcome our community next year in Oslo, where HOPE will guide us towards our collective vision for a better world. On day two of the NECE Festival: BORDERS, spent at Piramida Tirana, over 200 participants from across Europe and beyond came together to explore the layered realities of borders – geographical, social, digital, and ecological – and how we can address the challenges they create. We’d like to share some of the powerful lessons that emerged across a number of CUBE sessions covered today: 👉 Participants highlighted the urgency of addressing climate change beyond borders, emphasising the need for civil society to lead where governments are constrained by electoral terms. Climate solutions must be adaptable to local contexts, as approaches like cycling infrastructure or recycling are not universally feasible. 💡 Rekindling a personal connection with the earth can inspire action, especially among younger generations. 👉 On digital and media literacy, the focus was on turning connections into true collaborations. While technology offers unprecedented opportunities to transcend borders, it is not enough to simply build networks; meaningful engagement and partnerships, especially with schools and grassroots organisations, are essential for lasting impact. 👉 Migration regimes and governance were scrutinised for their inequities and inefficiencies. The current systems often fail those who need refuge most, revealing stark disparities between intentions and realities. Migration control may work in technical terms, but too often at the expense of human rights. Integration policies must overcome divisive narratives and create opportunities that benefit both migrants and host communities while mitigating the “brain drain” effect on countries of origin. 👉 Lastly, stories of community building underscored the transformative power of citizen engagement and open dialogue. From Rwanda’s post-conflict initiatives to European integration efforts, the lesson was clear: communities thrive when diversity is celebrated and citizens are involved in decision-making. True impact comes not from superficial networks but from collaborative efforts built on trust and shared goals. This second day of the festival set a tone of urgency, reflection, and hope, reminding us that borders are not just lines – they are opportunities to connect, challenge, and co-create solutions. Hello from Tirana! Right now, over 200 participants from civil society, politics, academia, media, and culture are gathering together in Tirana, Albania for the annual NECE Festival, which will last until November 17.
