SDE1 and SDE3 win prestigious façade design and engineering award https://lnkd.in/dsp_X9D2 CDE News of the NUS College of Design and Enginnering reports on December 11th: SDE1 and SDE3, two redesigned and retrofitted NetZero energy buildings on the CDE campus, have won the Society of Façade Engineers (SFE) Design and Engineering 2024 Project of the Year – International Sustainability award. The award was presented during a ceremony in London’s Old Billingsgate venue on 6 November 2024 with NUS Alum Victoria Thong (Bachelor of Architecture, Class of 2013) accepting the honour on behalf of the design team. The renovation project, titled An Equatorial School of Architecture, was also shortlisted in the award category: SFE Project of the Year - International Refurbishment. Dean's Chair Associate Professor Erik L'Heureux FAIA (Dept of Architecture), lead designer of the project, said it was “deeply rewarding” to see the work recognised on the global stage. “On behalf of the entire design team which includes many DOA alum, we are delighted to receive this important design and engineering award,” he said. https://lnkd.in/dsp_X9D2

Daniel Lago Leal lehrt Lichtplanung für den Bachelor-Studiengang KlimaEngineering an der Hochschule für Technik Stuttgart. Kursübersicht: Lichtplanung 2 konzentriert sich auf fortgeschrittene Techniken der Tageslichtplanung, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf der Integration von Simulationswerkzeugen in die nachhaltige Gebäudeplanung liegt. Die Teilnehmer erwerben praktisches Fachwissen zur Bewertung und Optimierung von Tageslichtautonomie, Blendung, Leuchtdichte und Sonnenschutzstrategien. Lernziele: Vertiefung der Kenntnisse in Tageslichtplanung und -simulation. Entwicklung von Fähigkeiten in: Eingabe von Parametern wie Geometrie, Zonen und Materialeigenschaften. Analyse von Leuchtdichte-, Blendungs- und Sonnenschutzstrategien. Visualisierung und Dokumentation der Ergebnisse zur Unterstützung von Entwurfsentscheidungen. Einsatz von Simulationswerkzeugen zur objektiven Bewertung von Entwurfsstrategien. Students will gain practical expertise in evaluating and optimizing daylight autonomy, glare, luminance, and sun protection strategies. Analysis of luminance, glare, and sun protection strategies. Visualization and documentation of results to support design decisions. Use simulation tools to evaluate design strategies objectively. Climate Festival 2024 There's nothing to celebrate when it has to do with the global climate - so why a festival? It's about the construction transition! Transsolar believes that the construction industry needs ecological and social transformation - and fortunately we are not alone. The “3rd Climate Festival for the Construction Transition” organized by BauNetz and Heinze in November 2024 was entitled “Together we are changing the construction industry. Sustainably.” “Together” is the guiding value. Networking and exchange can create paths: Where do we want to go and what is possible? Christian Frenzel was on site with Christine von Raven, Alina Wagner and Felix Thumm. His personal short report: "We had two great days full of constructive discussions at our stand and were able to listen to remarkable presentations. Contributions that impressed me personally were, for example, those by Karsten Schwanke, Anna Heringer and Louisa Schneider and what they emphasized: - Heat waves with temperatures above 40°C and high humidity are coming our way with the corresponding weather extremes. We must not hide from this, neither in politics nor in industry, nor in planning etc., but we must act and we can! - Global thinking is important, but we, i.e. each and every one of us, must take action ourselves to help shape our living space in a positive way! - Change needs personalities who can communicate positive initiatives to all groups of people with strength and relentless commitment! We were also very pleased about the exchange with both familiar faces and new contacts and the mutual appreciation in the discussions. The networking, combined with the exchange of content, between so many committed interest groups and individuals is encouraging, combined with the common goal: to make a difference in the construction industry against climate change!" 3.
