10th October is World Mental Health Day Quoting the WHO: “The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health. The Day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.” This year’s theme is Mental Health at Work. Many companies provide annual mental health courses for their employees, have reminders in their handbooks, they have coaches and some even offer sessions of psychological treatment. All in all, a good start. BUT… Empathy and caring about the employee doesn’t happen on paper, by ticking boxes with what is visible to the corporate world. It happens by asking, by listening, by being concerned about the well-being of the ones we work with on a daily basis and taking actions accordingly. I have never felt as seen, not only as a professional but also an individual, as in TNP. Mental health struggles come in many forms and I have personally experienced a variety of those at different stages of my life, personal and professional. At TNP, we mostly work remotely and still, people connect, leaders care. I know, I can speak about not being well without being stigmatized nor judged. A healthy culture must come from the top and trickle down to each corner of a company; I can see that happening at TNP and I feel blessed to work with the talented and caring group of people I do.
