Meet Dr. José Luis Güell (Miranza, Spain), who is another key member of the #veonet Medical Board and a pioneer in Corneal and Refractive Surgery. Dr José L. Güell is dedicated to corneal transplant surgery, refractive surgery and anterior segment reconstruction 👁 ↳ He is an Associate Professor in IMO’s master programme and coordinates the Department of Cornea and Refractive Surgery at IMO Grupo Miranza in Barcelona. ↳ He has been President of the The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) and European Society of Cornea & Ocular Surface Disease Specialists (EuCornea) and is still a director in both companies. ↳ He also coordinates the anterior segment modules at ESASO and is currently a Board Member of the Cornea Society in the United States and member of the Medical Board of the #veonet group. ↳ Dr. Jose L. Güell areas of interest are full and partial thickness corneal transplantation (Deep Anterior lamellar keratoplasty and endothelial keratoplasty), complex cataract and anterior segment reconstructive procedures including permanent keratoprothesis surgery (artificial cornea). ↳ Refractive surgery specially excimer and femtosecond laser, iris claw-style phakic IOLs and intracorneal ring segments have also been areas of his interest. ↳ He has lectured since 1991 nationally and internationally on these topics. He has 700 Conferences/talks in National and International Meetings and 250 articles in peer-reviewed journals and several book chapters. ↳ During his career Dr Jose L. Last week, Dr. Robert Ebner hosted an on-site meeting of the veonet IT Expert Group in Munich! 🤝🏼 💻It was a fantastic opportunity to bring together the IT leaders from all Veonet countries, including Mar Mas (Miranza, 🇪🇸) Lukas Kaiser (Vista, 🇨🇭), Nick Wright (SpaMedica, 🇬🇧), Patrick Stoll (OSG, 🇩🇪) and Jan-Herman Spanjersberg (Eyescan, 🇳🇱) united around our shared goals of harmonization, digitalization, and IT security. The discussions were dynamic and energized, and it quickly became evident that we’ve only begun to explore the depth of these essential topics. The time flew by, underscoring how many crucial priorities we can address as a team. Harmonizing our approaches, strengthening collaboration in digital transformation, and prioritizing IT security are clear focuses as we move forward, and we’re excited to build on this momentum.   Looking forward to more in-depth sessions and continued collaboration. Big News! 🎉 Welcome to Sebastian James, the new Group CEO of Veonet 👏 Sebastian brings years of experience from top roles, including with Boots and Dixons Carphone, where he led business growth across healthcare and consumer sectors. His leadership and healthcare expertise make him the perfect person to lead veonet’s next chapter as a top provider in eye care, with strong potential in current and new European markets. As Sebastian steps in, a big thank-you goes to Dr. Markus Hamm, who has led veonet’s growth for nearly five years. Under Markus’s leadership, the company expanded across Europe and grew to more than 280 clinics supporting 2.7 million patients each year. Dr. Hamm will stay on as a member of the Advisory and Executive Board of veonet, helping guide the future of #Ophthalmology and supporting healthy vision across Europe. 🌍

Hello from beautiful Barcelona! ☀️ Last week, the marketing team at veonet—Anna Damodaran (Germany 🇩🇪), Alison McLaughlan (UK 🇬🇧), Christian Zengaffinen (Switzerland 🇨🇭), Sabine van Deelen (Netherlands 🇳🇱) , and Carlota Guinart (Spain 🇪🇸)—gathered in the city to review their 2024 activities and set goals for the last months of the year and the near future. The energy was fantastic, with veonet's COO Marcos Bueso sharing some insights on the company's long-term vision and strategic goals for innovation and growth in the #ophthalmology sector. This meeting served as a great follow-up to the first gathering held earlier this year in Munich. As the team looks ahead, plenty of ideas are in the pipeline. 🚀

veonet Group CEO Dr. Markus Hamm joined the discussion on the future setup of outpatient healthcare delivery in Germany at Europäischer Gesundheitskongress München. One of the many exciting panels at the European Health Congress was “Outpatient care must pay off!”, which was moderated by Prof. Dr. Andreas Beivers, the scientific director of the congress. Kerstin Bockhorst, Head of Division at the German National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (GKV-Spitzenverband), was certain that outpatient care is not only worthwhile for the payers, but especially for the patients. “For inpatient service providers, however, it is only worthwhile if the structures are rebuilt accordingly and geared towards outpatient care”. Unfortunately, it is too often still a matter of chance whether a service is provided on an outpatient or inpatient basis. Dr. Markus Hamm criticized the fact that outpatient care is currently being thought of too much from a hospital perspective. “There are already many good structures in the field of SHI-accredited doctors that have been established over many years, both in the form of individual practices and medical care centers (MVZs).” Prof. Beivers referred to highly efficient structures with high case numbers that already exist in the practice sector. The panel agreed that the sectors should not be played off against each other. Dr. Markus Hamm also emphasized the importance of quality: “We need more quality measurement also in the outpatient sector. Many private operators are currently concerned about this issue. This week the country management teams of all our five country platforms (Miranza , Vista Gruppe, OberScharrer, SpaMedica, Eyescan) and the Veonet group management team took a break and met in Munich to discuss and exchange on latest developments in ophthalmology and to align on further strategy. It was also a pleasure to welcome Sebastian James, who willl take over Group CEO role in November. Afterward we swapped our office chairs for pretzels and pints at Oktoberfest. Prost to teamwork and good times ! (P.S. yes, Lederhosen were involved ...!) Tx to all of you - great fun !
