  • NEW MARINE RESERVE IN ZANZIBAR ➡️ Bawe Island by THE COCOON COLLECTION, in partnership with the Zanzibar government, has established a new marine reserve to protect the island’s coral reefs and rich biodiversity for future generations. This protected zone spans the entire coast of Bawe Island, ensuring that marine life can thrive undisturbed. ➡️ The initiative prohibits fishing within the designated area, allowing coral reefs to regenerate and restoring the natural balance of the ecosystem. ➡️ To support the local fishing community, modern housing with private boat docks is being built, enabling fishermen to operate sustainably in authorized offshore areas. ➡️ Bawe Island is also home to Zanzibar’s largest solar plant and features advanced desalination and wastewater recycling systems. ➡️ Located just 15 minutes from Stone Town, Bawe Island offers 70 luxury villas where guests can experience the island’s pristine beauty. Visitors can also explore nearby cultural and natural treasures like Jozani Forest, Stone Town, and spice tours. #voice4africa #zanzibar #marineconservation #sustainabletourism #africa Photo Credit: Getty Images

  • KAFUE NATIONAL PARK IS THRIVING! ➡️ Zambia’s Kafue National Park is fast becoming a premier eco-tourism destination, with tourist revenue up 25% and visitor numbers soaring 42% in 2024. ➡️ Thanks to a strong co-management agreement between the Zambian government and African Parks Network, the park achieved record numbers: ⏺️ $1.828 million in revenue ⏺️ 23,828 visitors exploring its vast wilderness ➡️ But the success goes beyond tourism: Community engagement is at the heart of Kafue’s transformation. • TRAVELERS ARE SEEKING MORE MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCES — AFRICAN DESTINATIONS OFFER THEM! ➡️ Today’s travelers want more than just sightseeing; they crave immersive, sustainable, and culturally rich experiences that make a real impact. African destinations are perfectly positioned to meet this demand. ➡️ One inspiring example is Justice Tourism Foundation (JTF) in Uganda, a grassroots, award-winning initiative that transforms travel into a force for social justice, sustainability, and community empowerment. ➡️ Their approach to slow, immersive travel connects visitors with indigenous communities, directly supporting local economies and fostering genuine cross-cultural exchange. ➡️ JTF’s model aligns with multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals, from education and gender equality to environmental conservation and human rights. ➡️ By prioritizing locally owned businesses, community-driven experiences, and meaningful connections, they prove that tourism can be both ethical and equitable—benefiting travelers and host communities alike. COMMUNITY CONSERVANCIES: AFRICA`S FUTURE OF WILDLIFE & TOURISM CONSERVATION? ➡️ Across Africa, community-led conservancies are redefining conservation by placing local communities at the heart of protecting nature. ➡️ Instead of relying solely on national parks, farmers and herders manage millions of hectares - often harboring more wildlife than traditional protected areas. ➡️ Why is this model so impactful? ✅ Thriving wildlife: In Kenya, Nashulai Maasai Conservancy has doubled wildlife populations. ✅ Sustainable tourism: Eco-lodges, guided safaris, and cultural tourism generate income for local communities. ✅ Reduced human-wildlife conflict: Livelihoods and conservation efforts go hand in hand. ✅ Economic empowerment: Jobs in hospitality, guiding, and conservation provide direct benefits. ✅ A holistic approach: Unlike "fortress conservation," which displaced indigenous communities, conservancies actively involve them in decision-making and revenue-sharing. Do you know of any other community conservancies setting new standards in conservation? Share your thoughts below 👇 #voice4africa #conservation #sustainabletourism #africa Photo Credit: Kenya Tourism Board
