Having just spoken at #ESGC2024 organized by EASE - The European Association for Storage of Energy, our Michael Peither is full of enthusiasm about the positive spirit that can be observed within the industry and the market. Renewable energies and specifically Long Duration Energy Storage LDES are undoubtedly on the rise. Yet, there still is a high need for funding and investments to realize the energy transition, leveraging the possibilities of a new energy infrastructure. Additional advocacy is given by International Energy Agency (IEA)´s latest #WorldEnergyOutlook2024 report urging for more clean energy investments and the upcoming COP29 Azerbaijan #GlobalEnergyStorageAndGridsPledge, emphasizing the need for a more robust infrastructure, including LDES solutions, to ensure grid reliability and resilience. NEW | 🇪🇺 EU could save €9bn annually in gas costs by using clean flexibility solutions such as batteries or cross-border grid connections to harness excess wind and solar by 2030 🔋⚡ An excess is coming and it’s nearly here already… 🌪️ and ☀️ are on track to exceed consumption during peak hours by 2030, with ☀️ alone already surpassing 80% of peak hour demand in nine countries over the last 12 months 📈 Rather than wasting this surplus power, 🇪🇺 could harness it through increased battery storage, demand-side flexibility or interconnection. Prioritising these clean flexibility sources will further reduce EU reliance on expensive fossil fuels ✅ Coupling renewables and clean flexibility growth can bring benefits, such as ☀️ more efficient use of home-grown wind and solar 📉 less reliance on expensive fossil fuel imports 💶 reduced grid congestion costs https://lnkd.in/ggtPwfD4
