The 2G shutdown timeline in Germany is set: Are you prepared? Last week, Deutsche Telekom announced they’ll be switching off their 2G network by summer 2028. Vodafone also revealed plans to gradually phase out 2G, aiming to complete the shutdown by the end of 2030. The goal: to free up space for newer standards like 4G, 5G, LTE-M, and NB-IoT. 📢 Why This Matters The shift will impact older IoT devices that currently rely on 2G, such as emergency call systems in elevators. With the shutdown, seamless communication for these systems will no longer be guaranteed unless they transition to new devices compatible with 4G and newer standards. 📆What’s next? Review your devices and their connectivity requirements. Generally, SIM cards aren’t an issue - they already support newer frequencies.
