🏆 Casa Clima Award 2024 for Uptown Torino 🎉   From over 1,700 projects, an expert jury selected the 5 most energy-efficient buildings in Italy in 2024: Uptown Torino, a reference project of our Italian colleagues, was among them.  Uptown Torino is a four-storey residential building in Turin that was originally a student residence. Its 4,500 square meters of floor space includes 21 apartments and a wide range of shared facilities for residents, such as a barbecue area, football pitches and a communal vegetable garden.   A Ytong construction system was used for the building's walls, consisting of exterior walls made of 30 cm thick thermal blocks. This solution ensures a perfectly insulated wall, which contributes to the energy efficiency of the building.  Each year, the CasaClima Agency awards highly energy-efficient buildings that meet certain parameters. From the jury's verdict on the project: “Uptown Torino presents itself as a successful urban regeneration project, which combines technological innovation, environmental sustainability, and quality of life. The choice of high-performance materials and advanced technological systems has allowed us to obtain a highly energy-efficient building, with high living comfort and a reduced environmental impact."    Xella Italia | Gruppo Building  #CasaClimaAwards24 #aac #ytong

A shining example of international cooperation within the Xella Group is also the tallest building in Finland 🥳 At 185 meters, the new cable tower of Prysmian will be a new VCV line for the production of extruded submarine cables in the Pikkala plant near Helsinki, one of Prysmian centres of excellence for submarine cable manufacturing. In addition to the client Prysmian S.p.A. Milan (Italy), and the general engineering company Ramboll, Xella is involved with the following expertise: ✅Our research department, Xella Technologie- und Forschungsgesellschaft mbH, recommended Multipor for the project based on the climatic conditions inside and outside the building. ✅International Product Management, who specified the project based on information from Ramboll. ✅Xella Sweden for organization, sales, and distribution ✅Xella Deutschland for technical project support, on-site training, demonstrating, and manufacturing Multipor insulation. ✅DASBA Cutting service (Xella Czech Republic) ✅Ytong Tool Shop (Xella Germany) with direct on-site tool supply How could a cooperation with so many parties work? 🌍 Zero Waste, Full Commitment🌿 We're proud to be on the eve of a major milestone: zero Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) leftovers to landfill by 2025. This is a key step on our journey to eliminate AAC and CSU leftovers to landfill by 2030. Our Circular Economy Development Manager, Antonio Grginovic, PhD, shares how Xella turned challenges into opportunities, driving creativity and collaboration across borders and departments. Three things we learned on this important journey: ➡️ The power of rethinking leftovers: landfilling is not just a loss of resources — it’s a missed opportunity. We’ve embedded circularity into our processes, reducing virgin material use and develop access to construction and demolition materials as a secondary raw material. ➡️Solutions come from diverse approaches: there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. By exploring industrial symbiosis, improving operations, and reassessing investments, we’ve adapted to local conditions while always keeping a broader perspective in mind. ➡️Zero is not the end: reaching zero AAC leftovers to landfill is a huge accomplishment, but maintaining it demands ongoing dedication. As regulations and markets evolve, we’ll continue to adapt, keeping our eyes open to new opportunities. And the journey isn’t over — with AAC milestones reached, our focus shifts to eliminating CSU (Calcium Silicate Units) leftovers to landfill by 2030. The knowledge, innovation, and teamwork from this process make us confident that we’ll achieve this goal, too. 💪 In the comment you get a link to the full interview with Antonio where he also shares his insights about the importance of collaboration for success. #circularity #zerowaste #esg #xella #aac

🍃Does the "E" in ESG means just focussing on reducing CO2 emissions? E stands for environment and it means much more than just reducing CO2 emissions. As a building company dedicated to providing efficient, affordable, and #sustainable solutions, we are deeply committed to minimizing our environmental impact. The 'E' in #ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) stands for "Environment" and underscores our focus and all the efforts on preserving our planet for future generations. To describe the full range of our activities, and to ensure comparability of our efforts across our industry, we publish our ESG Report annually. But let's deep dive into our key environmental efforts: 💡Climate Action: We are actively working on reducing our CO2 emissions. Our science-based targets (SBTi) provide a roadmap for achieving significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. 💡Resource Efficiency: By optimizing our production processes, we aim to minimize resource consumption and waste generation. 💡Circularity: Our approach is to use natural resources efficiently. This is why we thrive to enable us to repurpose materials from old buildings, use leftovers on construction sites and bring them back into our plants - focussing on reducing our demand for natural resources. 💡Energy efficiency: Producing our products is energy intense. So our approach is to reduce as much energy needed, and also switch to the use of more and more renewable energy sources into our operations. Any further questions? Let us know in the comments. We answer them.

At just 15, Jos Berkers began his journey at the CSU plant in Liessel. Now, half a century later, he’s marking an incredible milestone with 50 years of service at Xella’s plant De Hazelaar. His dedication, passion, and commitment have left a lasting impact, and his journey is truly one-of-a-kind. Jos stayed with Xella when many others moved on, valuing the freedom of working outdoors and embracing every role with full commitment. Over the years, he’s held a wide variety of positions, from cleaning in the press shop to working as a presser, steam operator, overhead-crane operator, and groundskeeper. The work has changed a lot—what was once physically demanding manual labor is now often automated, but Jos has embraced every challenge along the way. Jos recently celebrated his anniversary in style with family, friends, and colleagues. From a party in August to a team celebration with coffee, cake, and shared memories, it was a fitting tribute to a career filled with dedication. 👉 Read more about Jos' 50-year journey and his reflections: https://lnkd.in/ecfPrNJR Xella Netherlands

Ytong has done it again and successfully defended its title as the most trusted brand in the masonry materials category for the sixth year in a row in Czech Republic 🎉 . The "Most Trusted Brands" initiative, now in its tenth year, examines the trust that customers place in brands - on the basis of a representative sample of 4000 Czech consumers. In the masonry category, the title of "Most Trusted Brand" went to the Ytong autoclaved aerated concrete building system. The winners were honored at a gala event in Prague at the beginning of November 2024. Representing the Xella Czech Republic team, Luděk Suchomel and Vladislav Posekaný received the award 🏆 . "We are very pleased with this result, which confirms that Ytong continues to enjoy an outstanding position among customers. For all of us at Xella Czech Republic, this victory is a great motivation to continue our work with a focus on quality and innovation. We thank our team and our customers for their trust and support," said Ludek after the award ceremony. The fact that Ytong is a strong brand was already clear to the marketing manager for Xella CZ/SK when he joined the company about ten years ago, as he told us in an interview last summer: ”I firmly believe in Ytong. As a marketing expert, you appreciate working with a strong product; it gives you a certain drive." #ytong #aac Nejdůvěryhodnější značky #mosttrustedbrands

🎉 40 Years of Vespa Fun and Durability with Ytong! 🚲✨ Four decades ago, Ytong launched a unique competition with a special prize: a Vespa, symbolizing vitality and mobility. Today, this Vespa is not just still running, it’s a testament to lasting value, just like Ytong’s commitment to quality. Back in the 1980s, sustainability and durability were already at the heart of Ytong’s values, long before they became industry buzzwords. The Vespa was a perfect choice: robust, reliable, and built to last. For winner Hans Jürgen Fey from Bensheim, receiving the iconic scooter was a moment of pure joy, which continues until today. “Ytong understood even then that quality and durability are essential for a sustainable future. It's about creating things that benefit us for many years to come.” In 2014, Xella Deutschland awarded another Vespa to Marcel Schaaf from Trier, Germany. Now, two Ytong Vespas cruise the streets, carrying with them decades of memories. Who knows? Maybe Hans Jürgen and Marcel will be riding their Vespas for many more years, continuing this incredible journey with Ytong! #Sustainability #Durability #Legacy #Ytong #Vespa #Innovation #TimelessDesign #Quality

🏛️ Transforming Heritage for a Sustainable Future with Multipor 🏛️ The Leopoldskazerne project in Ghent, Belgium, is a remarkable example of sustainable urban renewal. Once a 19th-century military barracks, this historic site is being transformed into a vibrant city district featuring residential, commercial, and public spaces. At the core of this transformation, 320 m³ of Multipor insulation panels from Xella Belgium have been applied to the interior facades, providing superior thermal insulation while preserving the integrity of the historic structures. Multipor’s mineral panels are breathable and easy to apply directly to existing walls -no vapor barrier required. This insulation method enhances comfort for future residents, aligns with energy-saving goals, and supports the city’s commitment to sustainable development. Beyond insulation, this project fosters green spaces and community gathering spots, creating an open, accessible urban environment that respects both past and future. After a series of construction phases and the first residents moving in in 2023, the Leopoldskazerne will soon serve as a hub for living, working, and socializing, complete with an art school, hotel, and provincial house, embodying the vision of sustainable and inclusive urban growth. #Multipor #Sustainability #UrbanRenewal #EnergyEfficiency #HeritagePreservation #Ghent
