Accounting and Bookkeeping Manager

Solgelica Chemicals GmbH, a subsidiary of SGMA Ltd in the UK, has developed a breakthrough technology that uses natural sand derivatives to replace plastic-lined paper in single-use paper cups and other packaging materials. Our packaging materials are fully recyclable and compostable without the need for industrial composting. It is estimated that, globally, 500bn coffee cups are used every year and shockingly only 0.25% of those cups are recycled. Our vision is to create a future where everyone can consume products in single-use packaging ‘guilt-free’.  

Role 

We are looking for an Accounting and Bookkeeping Manager to join us, to ensure the financial integrity and operational efficiency of our company. You will oversee all accounting and bookkeeping functions, ensuring compliance with the German fiscal landscape and the associated regulatory framework.  

Responsibilities 

As the Accounting and Bookkeeping Manager you will have a pivotal role in our company and be responsible to: 

• Prepare and present monthly and annual financial statements.  
• Maintain accurate financial records, including ledgers and accounts payable/receivable.  
• Assist in developing budgets and monitoring performance against them.  
• Manage VAT returns and ensure compliance with local tax regulations.  
• Oversee payroll processing and maintain payroll records.  
• Monitor cash flow and assist in liquidity strategies.  
• Implement and monitor internal controls to ensure data integrity.  
• Assist with audits and implement recommendations from findings.  
• Monitor and ensure the Company’s compliance with German financial regulations.  

Qualifications 

Essential 

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.  
• Experience in accounting and bookkeeping, preferably in a startup.  
• Strong understanding of the German fiscal landscape.  
• Proficiency in accounting software (DATEV, QuickBooks etc) and MS Excel.  

Desirable 

• Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA).  
• Experience with payroll management and VAT compliance.
