So many women opt out of leadership roles, feeling the need to take a step back to manage the stress. And many of us are in the prime of our careers when menopause hits.
Yet it’s still such a taboo topic.
It’s disheartening to think that we’re losing incredible talent because the conversation hasn’t happened or is happening too slow.
Today is the start of Menopause Awareness Month, so I have decided to stick to this topic at least for the duration of this month.
I’ve received so many messages from women who are navigating this transition. It’s heartbreaking to hear their stories.
Many don’t know who to talk to or how to share our struggles, often suffering in silence filled with shame and fear.
I remember feeling that way myself—wondering why I felt so different when I should have been thriving, wondering what was happening with me.
You see, menopause can bring a whirlwind of symptoms.
I didn’t have hot flashes, but the brain fog? This hit me hard!
I’d walk into a meeting, ready to present, and suddenly draw a blank. I just wanted to hide in a corner or sink into a hole.
Oh and the anxiety at night, that keeps you from getting the sleep that you so need. And the impact of lack of sleep during your day when you need to function, when you need to perform and deliver.
And this feeling of your body and brain letting you down.
We don’t need to suffer! We can thrive! With the right treatment and support, you can take control of your symptoms!
💪 Why This Matters to Us
Did you know that 1 in 4 women say that menopause symptoms have negatively impacted their career development? And many are stepping down or not even applying for higher positions because of the stigma. I guess that explains the gap we still have in the C-suites. It’s time we address it.
✨ What Can We Do?
Educate: Raise awareness at work. Educate leaders on this topic and how they can support their employees. And let’s keep sharing our stories and talking openly about our experiences. Menopause is a natural phase of life, not something to hide from.
💖 Let’s celebrate this phase of our life and thrive!
Navigating these changes can actually make us better employees with more resilience and grit. I’ve found that this journey has taught me so much about adaptability and self-care.
