Mark Fedorcik, our Co-Head of the Investment Bank and Global Head of Origination & Advisory (O&A), has informed the bank about his intention to retire from the industry and take on a new challenge in the corporate sector. Alison Harding-Jones, currently Global Head of Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A), has been appointed as his successor. Mark has been with Deutsche Bank for 30 years, having joined as a graduate in 1995. During that time, he has played an integral role in the development and turnaround of our O&A business, also during challenging times. Since joining the bank as Global Head of M&A in January 2024, Alison has made a significant impact in further evolving our M&A franchise. During her career, she has held senior roles at banks in London, Hong Kong and New York. As part of her appointment as Global Head of O&A, she will also become Co-Head of the Investment Bank alongside Ram Nayak, Head of Fixed Income and Currencies. We wish them both all the best! Shareholder activism encompasses various forms of engagement in which 'activist' shareholders seek to bring about change in a publicly listed company. We regularly support clients in dealing with activists, helping them to prepare for activist situations and to react to them effectively. Our teams also regularly examine the developments in the activism landscape, and have just completed a review of the activity in 2024 and shared their outlook for 2025. 2024 saw record highs for shareholder activism activity. A total of 295 new campaigns were launched globally, 4% higher than in 2023 and 15% above the four-year average. This trend looks set to continue in 2025 with resurgent M&A activity and a changing macroeconomic environment creating fertile ground for activists. Great to see our EMEA Leveraged Finance team featured in The Banker’s Team of the Month! Our leveraged finance team for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) led the field in euro-denominated leveraged buyout financing as well as in high-yield activity and Term Loan B tranches. The market environment for leveraged finance improved in 2024, and the team is positive about the year ahead. “Rates have come down and yield levels are more reasonable,” says Diarmuid Toomey, Head of Leveraged Debt Capital Markets. “We have seen the re-emergence of leveraged buyouts, though not in high volumes. Despite global economic uncertainties, the Asia Pacific (APAC) credit market is showing remarkable resilience and growth potential. This was the key takeaway from Deutsche Bank's recent APAC Credit Outlook 2025 event in Singapore. The event provided our clients valuable insights into the region's credit market. Speakers included Juliana Lee, Chief Economist for Asia, and senior members of Deutsche Bank's Credit Sales, Trading, Research, and Debt Syndicate teams. Some key highlights: ✅ Asia outperformed global credit markets in 2024, with higher returns in both investment grade and high yield bonds. ✅ The region benefits from diversified bond issuance, low default rates, and a more favorable macroeconomic outlook than initially anticipated. ✅ Investor demand for APAC credit remains strong, attracted by historically high all-in yields.
