The strategic innovation unit and business incubator of Evonik is pioneering sustainable solutions for a better life.

Info

OUR MISSION Climate change, population growth, and geopolitical uncertainties are confronting humanity with new challenges, some of them unprecedented. As a creator of visionary innovations, Creavis has been a role model for developing and deploying competencies for innovations and technologies for more than 20 years. As Evonik's strategic innovation unit and business incubator, we will focus even more strongly on pioneering and sustainable businesses for a world worth living in. To this end, we are actively driving forward the development of new economic ecosystems and value chains. WHAT WE DO Three Incubation Clusters are central to our organization: The Defossilation cluster develops solutions with high growth potentials that enable industries to become independent of fossil raw materials, close material cycles and pave the way to a climate-neutral hydrogen economy. Novel concepts for the resource-efficient and sustainable production of food as well as the prevention and curing of diseases are focal points of the Life Sciences cluster. Based on comprehensive expertise in key applications, so-called domain knowledge, and data-based solutions, Solutions Beyond Chemistry promotes traceable, safe, and resource-efficient value chains. Our Foresight unit, which prepares us at an early stage for social, technological, economic, ecological, and political changes, and Networks, which provides the best innovation networks, are important pillars for achieving our goals. We are promoting our ambitions with the "Unboxing the Future" campaign. The boxes, as the central motif, represent desirable future scenarios - with functioning and interconnected ecosystems. - The claim sums this up briefly and originally. "Unboxing the Future" means for us: "Creavis is the pioneer of sustainable solutions for a better life".

  • 🚀 How could industrial lubricants shape the future? 🛠️ ✨ Recently, the Creavis Foresight team had the exciting opportunity to host a workshop with the Oil Additives - Industrial Lubricants team in Darmstadt. Together, we explored possible future scenarios for industrial lubricants in 2035. 🌍 We were thrilled to have a completely team on board, with representatives from various regions, including China and the USA. This diversity enriched our discussions by incorporating a wide range of regional perspectives. 💡 The concepts we've identified in our current focus topic “GameChanger 2035” served as the foundation for our discussions with the Industrial Lubricants team. GameChanger are developments with the potential to completely alter market dynamics. This led us to consider intriguing possibilities: could lubricants revolutionize construction techniques by reducing wear and tear on machinery? Could they be pivotal in developing more sustainable manufacturing processes? How might they enable spacecraft to travel further with less fuel. Our Foresight team is eager to continue this journey, driving impactful innovation and foresight in the world of industrial lubricants. #Evonik #Creavis #UnboxingTheFuture #InnovationForesight #OilAdditives #IndustrialLubricants

✨Envisioning a Sustainable Future of Construction✨ Foresight constantly monitors the developments of societies, technologies, politics etc. and how they could possibly affect industries. Therefore, at the end of last year, the Evonik foresight team hosted an internal workshop on the Future of Construction in Marl with one aim: to explore how the construction industry of the future can become more sustainable. Currently, the building and construction industry is responsible for about 37% of global carbon emissions. Despite efforts to decarbonize, its share of carbon emissions continues to rise. To meet the construction industry’s Net-Zero targets, it is essential to truly and effectively decarbonize.   Hence why the workshop brought together 25 foresight and construction experts from different Evonik functions and business lines to identify sustainable innovation opportunities that align with the sustainability targets of the industry. During the workshop, our colleague and future of construction expert, Isaac Ismaila, stressed that "Specialty chemicals are crucial in achieving a truly sustainable construction industry. Therefore, the chemical industry and the construction industry must innovate hand-in-hand in order to achieve this needed transformation".   Our foresight team looks forward to advancing the outcomes of the workshop and the topics identified with the support of our colleagues in 2025.

📖✨ Every good story ends with “they lived happily ever after.” Well… does it? ✨ We believe that everything that could possibly end up in the environment should be non-persistent. 🌿 This means that at the end of their life cycle, materials like polymers can be broken down by microorganisms into CO2 and water – leaving no trace. Our Solutions for Bioeconomy team is using synthesis, artificial intelligence, and sewage sludge💩 to make polyurethane biodegradable. 🌱 So, in some cases, “they degraded happily ever after” is our favorite ending to the story. Are you interested in solutions for biodegradable polyurethane? 🌿 Paving the Way for Plant- and Fungi-Based Materials🍄 A new class of materials is emerging in the fashion world: animal leather substitutes made with biomass from cactus, pineapple, hemp, or fungal mycelium. To ensure these innovative materials are high-performing and durable, suitable additives are essential – and at Evonik, that's exactly the kind of challenge we love solving. 🤝 Therefore, Maren and Ruben from our Solutions for Bioeconomy group teamed up with PhD student Antonio d'Errico and Prof. Han Wösten, a renowned fungal biology expert from Utrecht University. This fruitful partnership led to the development of two new additives that significantly enhance the flexibility and durability of plant- and mycelium-based materials. 🌱 The best part? Both additives act like plasticizers for natural fiber materials; however, they are non-hazardous, biobased and biodegradable, leaving no trace behind. Curious to learn more? Feel free to reach out to Dr. Maren Wissing and Ruben Richrath or leave a comment below! #Evonik #Creavis #UnboxingTheFuture #mycelium #PlantBasedLeather

🌟 The Future of Mobility is Electric 🌟 The electric vehicle (EV) market is rapidly expanding, with nearly 14 million units sold globally in 2023. This growth underscores the urgency of addressing the challenges of electromobility. Today, nearly one in five new cars sold is electric, and by 2030, this is expected to rise to one in two. Key issues such as driving range, fast-charging capabilities, sustainable production, affordability, and safety must be addressed to ensure the widespread adoption of EVs. At the heart of these challenges is the development of advanced battery technologies, which are crucial for driving the future of electromobility. By 2030, EV batteries will displace eight million barrels of oil per day and, along with storage applications, will directly contribute to nearly 20 % of emissions reductions. Specialty chemistry plays a vital role in this transformation, enabling the development of innovative materials and solutions that enhance battery performance and sustainability. ⚡🔋 #Evonik #Creavis #UnboxingTheFuture #FutureMobility #eMobility #Batteries
