As Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus puts it: “It’s okay to prioritise your health”. What would happen if you prioritised your own health above your work next week? (I won’t tell your boss) With physical activity representing a cornerstone in the primary prevention of chronic conditions, this is probably the best thing you can possible prioritise next week While you are at it, why not prioritise your family’s health next week too? Enjoy the short-term benefits of feeling better and the long-term benefits of fewer visits to the doctor. →⚕️What if we put HEALTH FIRST as a nation? →⚕️ What if every new national policy prioritised Health above all else? Many think a HEALTH FIRST approach harms business and finances, but this is not the case. It is a myth (see references in the comments section) A healthier nation, actively focused on prevention, leads to a stronger economy, led by a workforce that takes far less extended sick leave. A great interview (unfortunately only in German) with our Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow Shera Chok for the Süddeutsche Zeitung Dossier where she talks about very important issues like #digitaltransformation, #inclusion and #diversity that will go a long way in making our #healthcare system resilient. Do give it a read (scroll down the Dossier to Tiefgang to the interview). 👇
Digital transformation in healthcare is a top priority for many countries. Empowering our service users and workforce, inclusion, using data effectively and improving population health outcomes need to be at the core of our digitisation strategies. My interview with Miriam Dahlinger from Süddeutsche Zeitung has been published - drawing on my Fellowship in Berlin with the Robert Bosch Academy last year examining and comparing the approaches and progress on digitisation in healthcare. #RBA10 As the Robert Bosch Academy celebrates the 10th year of its existence, join us for the fourth event of our special series “Anniversary Debates” to discuss some of the most pressing challenges of our time. The upcoming Anniversary Debate will focus on Europe’s role in a changing international order. The #globalorder is undergoing profound changes with shifting power dynamics and the formation of new alliances challenging the traditional dominance of Western powers. The set of institutions that have structured global governance since the mid-20th century are incapable of addressing the today’s problems, be it dealing with #climatechange or maintaining #peace. The existing fault lines between the West and so-called #GlobalSouth have become more evident than ever before in light of the wars in #Ukraine and the Middle East. In this era of disruption, the question arises as to whether Europe is a reliable and credible partner in navigating the complexities and uncertainties of a changing world. This event will examine how the European Union and its member states are perceived by their partners and whether they hold a political, economic, and moral authority to lead and collaborate on key global issues. What do new, old, and potential allies expect from Europe? How do they assess Europe’s ability to uphold commitments in trade, security, and global governance? What changes, if any, does Europe need to embrace to remain a credible and attractive partner for these partners? Will Europe be able to live up to the expectations or is it at risk of losing its allies? Join us for this discussion with - Natalia Gavrilița, Director, Partnerships for New Economy; former Prime Minister, Republic of Moldova; and Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow, Robert Bosch Academy - Bert Koenders, Professor of Peace, Justice and Security, Leiden University; former Minister of Foreign Affairs, The Netherlands; and Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow, Robert Bosch Academy - Dr. Jana Puglierin Puglierin, Senior Policy Fellow and Head of the Berlin Office, European Council on Foreign Relations - Hanna Tetteh, former UN Under Secretary General and Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa; and Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow, Robert Bosch Academy Moderated by: Bilal Bağ The debate will be followed by a reception with canapés and drinks.

I was invited to participate in a panel discussion at the Richard von Weizsäcker Forum. This year's Richard von Weizsäcker Forum took place in Berlin and Hamburg and also marked the 10th anniversary of the Robert Bosch Academy [In the midst of all the conflicts around the world and the fault lines that it has exposed in an increasingly fractured world, the Forum this year dedicated time and space to explore different facets of the changing international order, to understand different positions and listen to voices which are often unheard.] This inherently global topic often has local implications as well, particularly in schools and classrooms. Therefore our main question at the panel was: “How is International Politics Affecting Classrooms?” I had the honor to discuss this topic on the panel with: Maike Drewes, School Principal, Erich Kästner Schule, Hamburg and Dortit Lengyel, Professor of Educational Science in Multilingual Contexts, University of Hamburg. Kwame Akyeampong moderated the event. Beside the panel, it was more important for me to have the opportunity to bring my students to this event to engage with scholars and thinkers from all over the world. And I really have to admit, that this was the highlight of the evening. Seeing this young generation exchanging ideas in a room full of global players was inspiring! To Robert Bosch Stiftung and Bilal Bağ Projektmanager Robert Bosch Academy - Thank you for this amazing opportunity for my students and for myself. And I would like to share an quote from the panel, that is very important for me - as a call to action for all teachers and educators: "It is very important to provide children with role models that they can relate to. At the same time, it is also important for teachers to know the histories of students they are teaching, look at them as thinking, curious individuals with histories." #RichardvonWeizsäckerForum #RvWForum #RBA10 #RobertBoschAcademy #InternationalPolitics #Education #GlobalCitizenship #YouthEmpowerment 📷David Ausserhofer/Robert Bosch Academy

Join us in Berlin for a panel discussion on 28 November with author Peter Schwartzstein and climate activist Nisreen Elsaim: "On the frontlines of climate conflict – Making sense of violence in the age of global heating". Climate change is not just an environmental crisis, but a growing source of civil unrest and global violence. In his groundbreaking new book, "The Heat and the Fury: On the Frontlines of Climate Violence", environmental journalist and author Peter Schwartzstein lays out in detail how drought, heat and other climate extremes are exacerbating conflict, and all through the stories of the people who are experiencing all of this in their daily lives. Peter will be joined by Nisreen Elsaim, a prominent Sudanese climate activist with over ten years of experience in climate policy, peace and security, and youth empowerment. Clean Energy Wire and Stiftung Mercator are organising this event on 28 November (walk-in from 17.30 CET) in the Community Space of iac in Berlin. Be sure to sign up (link in the first comment) for insightful conversations followed by networking with snacks and drinks. #climate #journalism #global heating
