
EXCLUSIVE: Wicked star Cynthia Erivo has boarded Lionsgate’s action thriller Karoshi from 87Eleven.
She will star in the movie alongside Teo Yoo (Past Lives, The Recruit) and Isabel May (1883), as Deadline previously scooped.
87Eleven Entertainment’s Chad Stahelski, Alex Young and Jason Spitz are producing Karoshi through their deal with Lionsgate. The film will begin production in June, with Takashi Doscher directing from his own script.
The film is described as a corporate thriller with a samurai twist. Further plot details and role specifics for Erivo, Yoo and May are under wraps.

Erivo remains booked and busy following her turn as Elphaba Thropp in Jon M. Chu’s two Wicked movies. She is also set to appear as a set of sextuplets in Season 2 of Peacock’s Poker Face, and she just released a single “Replay,” the first off of her upcoming album.
She also will star as Jesus in the Hollywood Bowl production of Jesus Christ Superstar this summer from August 1-3. Wicked: For Good, the second part of Chu’s duology adaptation of the stage musical and Gregory Maguire’s novel, arrives in theaters November 21, 2025.
Erivo is currently in production on Gina Prince-Bythewood’s film adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone, in which she will appear as Admiral Kaea, alongside a stacked cast of Thus Mbedu, Amandla Stenberg, Viola Davis, Idris Elba and more. She will also host the 2025 Tony Awards in June.
