SPOILER ALERT: This post spoils some surprise appearances in Wicked: Part One.
Jon M. Chu’s Wicked has a star-studded cast led by Ariana Grande as Galinda the Good Witch and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West.
Several other familiar faces accompany the witches at Shiz University and beyond. Many of them sing at points in the film, including Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh.

Galinda Upland aka Glinda the Good Witch (Ariana Grande)
Galinda Upland, lover of all things pink, met the Wicked Witch of the West at Shiz University, where they formed a fast friendship. She wanted nothing more than to be a sorceress.
Ariana Grande has previously appeared in Don’t Look Up (2021) and Nickelodeon shows Sam & Cat and Victorious.

Elphaba Thropp the Wicked Witch of the West (Cynthia Erivo)
Elphaba Thropp was born green, and she felt like an outsider from the beginning. She attends Shiz with her sister Nessarose who was born not green, but also with twisted legs as a result of their father making their mother chew milk flowers day and night. She became good friends with Galinda in school.
Cynthia Erivo won a Tony, Grammy and Daytime Emmy for her portrayal of Celie in The Color Purple on Broadway. She also appeared as Aretha Franklin in Genius and Harriet Tubman in Harriet (2019). She also appeared as Darlene Sweet in Bad Times at the El Royale (2018) and as Belle in Widows (2018).

Fiyero Tigelaar (Jonathan Bailey)
Fiyero is a prince from Winkie country, and his focus is far from school most times. He brings fun to an, at first, tense relationship between Elphaba and Glinda.
Jonathan Bailey is known for portraying Viscount Anthony Bridgerton in Shonda Rhimes’ Netflix series adaptation of the beloved book series by Julia Quinn. His starring season of the show was Season 2, though he had a big role in the first season as well, and he also starred as Tim Laughlin in Fellow Travelers. He appeared as jack Maddox in Heartstopper, and he also played Olly Stevens in Broadchurch as well as Sam in Crashing.

Nessarose Thropp (Marissa Bode)
Nessarose is Elphaba’s younger sister and their father’s favored daughter. It is she that brings Elphaba to Shiz initially.
Marissa Bode is the first actress in a wheelchair to portray Nessarose. She has previously appeared in shorts like No Roles Written (2019) and Carsleepers (2013).

Boq (Ethan Slater)
Boq is one of Galinda and Elphaba’s fellow students who wants Glinda to desperately notice him.
Ethan Slater is known for playing Spongebob SquarePants in The SpongeBob Musical: Live on Stage! He has also appeared in Los on a Mountain in Maine (2024), Fosee/Verdon and Murphy Brown.

The Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum)
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz sends for Elphaba after a recommendation from Madame Morrible, but he hides behind a large, robotic head.
Jeff Goldblum is known for playing Malcolm in Jurassic Park (1993), Seth Brundle in The Fly (1986), Deputy Kovacs in The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) and David Levinson in Independence Day (1996).

Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh)
Madame Morrible is the Headmistress and Dean of Sorcery at Shiz University. She recognizes Elphaba’s talent and magic and wants to help her reach her true potential.
Michelle Yeoh won an Oscar for her portrayal of Evelyn Wang in Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022). She worked with Jon M. Chu on Crazy Rich Asians, in which she starred as Eleanor Young, and she is also known for playing Yu Shu Lien in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) as well as Wai Lin in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997).

Dr. Dillamond (Peter Dinklage)
Dr. Dillamond is an animal professor at Shiz, specifically a goat. He teaches all of the main characters in history class.
Peter Dinklage is known for playing Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones, Dr. Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), Finbar McBride in The Station Agent (2003) and James in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017). He more recently starred as Casca Highbottom in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2024).

Pfannee (Bowen Yang)
Pfannee is one of Galinda’s cronies who initially encourages rudeness toward Elphaba. He and ShenShen are always with Galinda.
Bowen Yang is known for his tenure on Saturday Night Live, playing Brian in High maintenance and Jason in The Outs. He appeared in Isn’t It Romantic as Donny’s Guy, and in Fire Island as Howie. He hosts the Las Culturistas podcast with Matt Rogers.

ShenShen (Bronwyn James)
ShenShen is another of Galinda’s cronies. She is never without the pink witch or at the very least, Pfannee.
Bronwyn James played Sergeant Wade in Lockwood & Co., Fanny Lambert in Harlots and as Natalie in Cheaters. She has also appeared in shows like Slow Horses, Still Up, Masters of the Air and Renegade Nell. She will soon be seen in the live action How To Train Your Dragon as Ruffnut.

Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth had a cameo appearance during “One Short Day in the Emerald City.”
