Victor Levin On Going From ‘Mad Men’ & ‘Mad About You’ To Navigating The Complicated Relationship Of ‘Alice & Jack’ – Behind The Lens

Victor Levin video interview

Victor Levin joins me today for this edition of my Deadline video series Behind the Lens, where we talk about a number of things in his long career, most specifically the creation of his latest project, Alice & Jack.

It’s a PBS limited series starring Andrea Riseborough and Domhall Gleeson in a London-shot story about a unique relationship spanning several years and other events and relationships in the lives of two people who just can’t seem to quit each other. Levin, who is the sole writer as well as an executive producer on the show, tells me why the time was right in his career to tackle such a sophisticated television project, why he cast it the way he did, why he changed the initial location from NYC to the UK capital, the themes, the inspirations and much more.

Related Stories

Levin is a veteran writer-director-producer whose versatile career ranges from key writing-producing positions on shows like Mad About You, The Larry Sanders Show, Dream On and Mad Men, all the way to last season’s Jon Cryer NBC sitcom, Extended Family. Feature credits include the terrific 5 to 7, with Anton Yelchin; Destination Wedding, with Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder; and Then She Found Me, with his Mad About You star Helen Hunt. He started his career as a creative advertising exec working on such commercials and campaigns as Jell-o and Dr. Pepper for Young & Rubicam.

We talk about all of this in our wide-ranging conversation as Victor Levin takes us “behind the lens.”

Join me every Monday and Friday during Emmy season for another edition of Behind The Lens.
