How attractive is the ongoing #Lithuanian offshore wind auction and what can be expected from the remaining markets in the #Baltics? The offshore wind markets in the Baltics have been progressing at varying paces and with various challenges. Overall, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania hold significant fixed-bottom potential but are shaped by modest ambitions, limited demand and diverse market approaches to offshore wind development. Lithuania has recently re-launched it’s second auction, following updates to the auction conditions, with results expected in 2025. Yesterday, Sara Aagesen has been appointed the new Minister of Energy and Environment in #Spain. Formerly the State Secretary of Energy, she will succeed Teresa Ribera just as the country gears up for their offshore wind developments. With prime wind resources and a 3 GW target by 2030, Spain recently approved a new framework to regulate electricity production from offshore wind. #France approved new priority areas for offshore wind and plans to kickstart 9 GW auction soon Following the launch of the 9th auction round (#AO9) in July 2024, France has approved new priority areas to reach government targets in 2035 and 2050 with the initial 9 GW set for the next auction #AO10. #Australia’s offshore wind market got off to a hot start with the #Gippsland auction, where a multitude of developers rushed to the market to secure a feasibility license in the area, which concluded with awards for 12 projects. Since then, the market experienced a slow down as the subsequent three auctions saw only 10 applications in total and only two projects were awarded so far.
