This week, we hosted our bi-annual seasonal luncheon—a special occasion to connect with Asian ambassadors and our other partners who share ties to Asia. These events are all about meaningful conversations and networking with old and new friends, and of course, great food! Our keynote speaker, Mette Nøhr Claushøj, an American politics analyst and lecturer, writing for Børsen, delivered an engaging talk on the recent U.S. elections, exploring their impact and potential future implications. It was a timely and thought-provoking discussion that gave new perspectives on the global ramifications of U.S. political trends. Thank you to all who joined us! We’re already looking forward to the next opportunity to come together.

Denmark needs to link up with Asia! ➡ That is the key message from Asia House Denmark’s editorial in the latest edition of the journal, Børsen, co-authored by our colleagues Peter Johansen and Torben Krab. 📱 You can read the editorial here (notice: written in Danish): https://lnkd.in/d894nkBa With the challenges of rising U.S. protectionism, economic rivalry with China, and a potential German recession, Denmark has to connect much closer with Asia's growth markets. This shift calls for strategic focus and a unified Nordic approach to drive success. Asia House outlines three critical pillars for this strategy: 1️⃣ Nordic-Baltic cooperation: As a small country, Denmark can amplify its influence in Asia by promoting a stronger, united New Nordic brand. 2️⃣ Beyond simple export: Denmark would benefit from developing an export promotion system based on internationalization, prioritizing mutual benefits over one-way export efforts. Public-Private partnerships and collaborations with philanthropic foundations are key to achieving this. 3️⃣ Asia knowledge: Investing in a deeper understanding of Asia, both strategically and operationally, is crucial for making informed, impactful decisions. These insights are grounded in Asia House's extensive experience leading internationalization programs alongside foundations like Industriens Fond.

🌏 A week with future leaders at Asia House Denmark 🌍 This past week, we had the privilege of welcoming ten interns from Det Internationale Gymnasium Niels Brock, who joined us to explore the critical topic: "Why is Asia an Important Region?" and to brainstorm ways we can inspire Danish youth to engage with Asia’s dynamic cultures and economies. 🗣 The week was filled with insightful lectures and conversations. Honar Abdollahi led a session on the essential role of cultural understanding, highlighting how it fosters international collaboration. Peter Johansen provided a comprehensive overview of Asia's significance in the global landscape. Meanwhile, our board member, Kenneth P. Luciani, emphasized the importance of cultivating a global perspective for future success - right in line with the mindset and "EAC spirit" of the East Asiatic Company. 👑 A highlight of the week was the King Chulalongkorn Memorial Day ceremony, where students joined representatives from the Royal Thai Embassy to Denmark in celebrating Thailand’s cultural heritage, providing them with firsthand experience in cultural diplomacy and international respect. 👏 The students concluded their internship by presenting their projects to a panel of experts, including Kenneth P. Luciani, Susanne Rumohr Hækkerup, Peter Bang-Sudergaard, and Joan Jürs, receiving feedback on their creative and forward-thinking ideas — At Asia House, we're happy to support youth initiatives and build bridges between Denmark and Asia. By fostering a global mindset in young people, we aim to help develop future leaders who understand Asia's role in the world. 📣 A big thanks to Det Internationale Gymnasium Niels Brock, the Royal Thai Embassy to Denmark (Jaya Patrachai), and of course our interns and collaborators: Hjalte Thulstrup Christiansen, Abdullah Hussain Mir, William Ulrik Wendelboe-Larsen, Nikolai Robevski, Kasper Jægerskou, Arshpreet Kaur Sohi, Johan Kinnunen Pedersen, Julius Gorm Jacobsen, Maia Bjerregaard Lerche, Tobias Husum Niemann, Joan Jürs, and Peter Bang-Sudergaard.

🎓✨ This week, we've had the pleasure of hosting students from the IPC - The International People's College. As part of their Asia Week, we shared our insights on culture and intercommunication, and what it's like to experience Denmark from an expat’s perspective. The students were highly engaged, asking thoughtful questions, and offering their own perspectives, making the session a truly interactive experience 🙌💬. A special thanks to the IPC teachers, Rod Lee and menchie nolasco, for facilitating such an enriching exchange. It's always a pleasure to contribute to these kinds of meaningful discussions and to witness firsthand the impact of global education in action 📚🌈. We look forward to more opportunities to engage with and inspire cross-cultural learning. If you're part of an educational institution interested in collaborating, please reach out to our Head of Youth Initiatives, Honar Abdollahi 📩😊. 📸 Photo credit: Salma Nawaz

Asia House was pleased to host an interesting discussion with the visiting National Defence 2024 delegation from Bangladesh this morning. ☀ Deputy Head of Department from the Foreign Ministry of Denmark, Christian Bayer Tygesen, gave a concise introduction to Denmark’s views on Russia’s war in Ukraine. The delegation discussed avenues to the common goal of reaching a peaceful solution, with Mr. Tygesen underlining the fundamental principle in international law that big countries do not have the right to impose might on smaller countries. 🌐 📸 Photo credit: Salma Nawaz 🏠 Asia House host: Susanne Rumohr Hækkerup Asia House Denmark, Udenrigsministeriet, Embassy of Denmark in Bangladesh
