It was a great pleasure to host the Maritime Cyber Guild at #BIMCO House to discuss a wide range of topics, including #cyber incident response plans, #cybersecurity verification of newbuilds, and the human aspects of information security. The Guild is composed of cyber and information security experts from the marine sector and meets every 3-4 months to discuss pertinent topics and exchange information about the constantly developing #maritime cybersecurity landscape. A big thanks to the Guild master, Christopher Stein, for being at the helm.

Last week, BIMCO Secretary General & CEO, David Loosley, attended the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers Canada’s Dry Bulk & Commodities Conference in Vancouver. In his keynote speech addressing sustainability, geopolitics, outlooks and forecasts, Loosley said: “We are facing the urgent task of decarbonising the world fleet without disrupting world trade, while operating in an environment of increasing geopolitical volatility, challenges and conflicts. But shipping has always faced disruption and has a good track record in effectively responding to the chaos thrown its way. As we have all seen in the past, it takes a lot to really disrupt shipping. And yet, sometimes, we are reminded that it can also take very little.” #BIMCO #GlobalTrade #ShipsAndShipping

The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) has recovered since the start of November due to stronger capesize freight rates, but the index is still down 10% y/y. The capesize market has benefited from a 1% increase in shipments so far in November compared to October 2024 and November 2023. However, the increase has not been enough to recover to the highs seen during the first three quarters of 2024.
