Cycling Without Age & Looping Gramps join forces to combat loneliness amongst the elders! Looping Gramps is a social and charitable project that aims to raise awareness and funds for this cause. We are excited that they have decided to donate all funds raised during their challenge to Cycling Without Age. Yesterday, the 9th of October, Jimbo from Looping Gramps, alongside his grandma lit a candle in Murcia, Spain. This marked the start of Jimbo's solo ride across Spain, where he will bike as long as he can until the candle flame burns out. This is an exceptionally difficult challenge as he will be riding all day, every day, for an extended period, pushing his limits for a worthy cause. Cycling Without Age is a movement started in 2012 by Ole Kassow. Ole wanted to help the elderly get back on their bicycles, but he had to find a solution to their limited mobility. The answer was a rickshaw and he started offering free bike rides to the local nursing home residents. He then got in touch with a civil society consultant, Dorthe Pedersen, at the municipality of Copenhagen, who was intrigued by the idea and together they bought the first 5 rickshaws and launched Cycling Without Age, which has now spread to all corners of Denmark and to 50 countries around the world. Cycling Without Age currently has approx. 5,000 volunteer pilots manning nearly 1,000 rickshaws giving 100,000 elderly nursing home residents the right to wind in their hair.

We will be at the Velo-city conference next week - can't wait to meet fellow cycling activists. Cycling Without Age will be there to listen and learn and will be presenting: "connecting through cycling - building a cycle community for all" and "promoting health and equity - strong cross-sector partnerships to scale up pilot projects". So grateful for this opportunity, thank you European Cyclists' Federation for making it possible. This will be the biggest Velo City to date, it will lead to better health and more happiness. We are so grateful to the Aging & Disability Resource Center of Eau Claire County for partnering with us on obtaining this wonderful bike via the 85.21 Specialized Transportation Grants Trust Fund! We are also very proud to now be a part of Cycling Without Age and their international mission to “help our older generation experience once again the freedom, the joy, and the mobility of cycling”! Look for us starting spring 2024 on many adventures in the great outdoors! For now, our wide open hallways will certainly do to get us through the cold winter.
