Fire safety in action 🚒🔥   Last week, two fire trucks with firefighters were ready to take action at the ramps of Optima Seaways. Thankfully, there was no real emergency – it was all part of a fire safety exercise at Rosslare, Ireland 🧯⛴️   The crew of Optima Seaways, along with Rosslare Operations staff, Wexford Fire Service, and Irish Rail, conducted a drill simulating a fire on the freight deck. The exercise covered everything from the initial "discovery" of the fire to the Fire Service's response and containment.   “Whilst we all hope we never have to face such a situation in reality, it’s reassuring to see the strong collaboration between ship and shore, and the excellent teamwork among all partners, ensuring we are prepared for all eventualities,” said Chris Parker, Route Director Rosslare-Dunkerque.   At DFDS, safety always comes first 🦺 Let’s continue working together to keep our operations safe 🫱🏽🫲🏻   #DFDS #WeMoveForAllToGrow #SafetyFirst #Fireexercise

Our CEO Torben Carlsen joined Stephanie Lose, Danish Minister of Economic Affairs and Jenny Braat, CEO of Danish Maritime, at the Global Entrepreneurship Week in Esbjerg last week. They discussed the importance of innovation in the maritime industry 💡🌊   Torben emphasized the significant role startups and entrepreneurs have in coming up with new ways to reduce our carbon footprint 🍀   By collaborating with startups and students, we can get innovative ideas and solutions. We are happy to announce that we have reached an agreement and completed the acquisition of the international transport network of Ekol Logisitics. 🚛    With this we are adding road transport to our Mediterranean ferry network and mirroring our proven business model from Northern Europe. We are proud to join more than 50 companies and organisations across the maritime and energy sectors in signing a call to action to:    ⛽ Increase the uptake of zero and near-zero emissions fuel  ⛴️ Invest in zero-emissions vessels  🍀 Develop green hydrogen infrastructure globally    The initiative was announced this week at COP29.      We have an ambition to accelerate the transition to a greener future for the shipping industry. We are planning to build six alternatively fuelled vessels by 2030, and we are continuously finding ways to reduce the emissions from our vessels by reducing speed, optimising the schedules, reducing turnaround times in the terminals and implementing technical optimisations ⛴️    But we cannot do this alone. Today we are releasing our Q3 results.     As we expected, it was a challenging quarter, and slowdown in demand and manufacturing in Europe became even more widespread.     Working through this market environment, we managed to protect and grow volumes by leveraging our strong transport network, but price and margin pressures intensified, and it impacted our result which was below our expectations.       🍀 We continue to make progress in our ESG and decarbonisation efforts by reducing the emission intensity of our ferries and following through on our deployment plan for electric trucks.     👩🏻🦰 On diversity, women in non-office based positions increased from 12% to 14% and women’s representation in management positions increased from 19% to 20%.    🦺 Safety continues to be a priority. We see positive development across our business both year to date and last 12 months - although some areas reported lower safety performance compared to Q3 2023.     Looking ahead, our focus remains unchanged. We are launching a new direct ferry service between Egypt and Italy, marking a significant expansion in the Mediterranean region 👏   The establishment of a reliable and efficient connection between Damietta in Egypt and Trieste in Italy will support the trade flows between North Africa and Europe 🌍   Mathieu Girardin, Head of Ferry Division says:   “The new route aligns perfectly with our commitment to organic growth and solidifies our strong presence in the Mediterranean region. The service not only expands our network but also enhances our ability to connect communities and support local economies opening up opportunities for trade and stronger economic ties between the two countries”.
