We were thrilled to host Oliver Alexy, Professor of Innovation & Organization Design at TUM - Technical University of Munich, for an exclusive DTU Executive MBA masterclass on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Professor Oliver Alexy teaches Innovation Leadership on our DTU Executive Education MBA program and shared core insights into navigating innovation, ambiguity, and how to build structured, adaptive strategies to drive success in competitive, fast-moving markets. 🎯 One core focus of the session was the VRIO Model - a framework for assessing a company’s strategic assets to carve out lasting competitive advantage. VRIO evaluates resources along four critical dimensions: 1️⃣ Valuable: Does it capitalize on market opportunities or buffer against threats? 2️⃣ Rare: Is it distinctive beyond what competitors possess? 3️⃣ Inimitable: Does its uniqueness resist easy replication, due to factors like historical specificity or complexity? 4️⃣ Organized: Is the organization structured to maximize its potential? 💡 Through Olivers introduction and discussion of the VRIO Model with the masterclass attendees this session developed and deepened our understanding of how to strategically leverage assets for competitive advantage.
