At DTU Sustain we also do continued education in a lot of subjects and areas. For example the DANIDA course Solid Waste Management and New Technologies that is lead by Associate Professor, Anders Damgaard from DTU Sustain. The movie below with Sandra Marcela Ramírez Ubate from Bogotá in Colombia gives a great insight in the solid waste management in Denmark, but also why it is so important that these ambassadors can bring the applied knowledge with them back to their home countries. DTU Sustain 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀! ☀️ It is also important to highlight all the social activities we have been hosting in 2024. 🌟 In June, we celebrated the inauguration of Building 112, which will be dedicated to residual resources, recycling, and circularity, and it is state-of-the-art. 🌲 In August, we hosted the Annual DTU Sustain Picnic in Gyrstinge Skovkro, a day filled with education, fun, and community. 🎁 In November, we held DTU Sustain’s annual Christmas Lunch in Nordhavn. We shared a great time with our colleagues and enjoyed traditional Danish Christmas dishes.   As an international institute, these social activities bring us closer across the institute and different nationalities and backgrounds! 🏗️ Exciting news! We're proud to announce our new state-of-the-art laboratory building (Building 112) at DTU Sustain, setting new waste management and recycling research standards. This DGNB German Sustainable Building Council Gold & Diamond certified facility enables groundbreaking research in sustainable waste utilization, featuring advanced ventilation systems and specialized zones for everything from large-scale waste handling to precise chemical analysis. 🧪 Why this matters: Our researchers can now tackle critical environmental challenges like PFAS contamination and methane emissions from landfills with unprecedented precision. With advanced in-house measurement capabilities, we're accelerating our research to develop more effective waste treatment methods. 🌱 The building itself embodies our sustainability mission: - Constructed with certified wood - Façade made from recycled aluminum - Modular design for easy maintenance - Sedum-covered roofs for environmental protection We're particularly excited about how this facility will enhance collaboration with partners across Denmark in addressing pressing environmental challenges. The project aimed was to investigate how absolute environmental sustainability assessments can be applied to guide the industry towards sustainable practices. 🌍 Key findings show that quantitative assessments are necessary to fully understand the building sector's current environmental impacts. 🎉 Applying the proposed methods to the Danish building sector, the work carried out in the PhD thesis demonstrates that current practice is very far from environmentally sustainable. 🇺🇦⚡ 𝗨𝗸𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗗𝗧𝗨 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 🇩🇰 Yesterday DTU Sustain had the great pleasure of hosting a delegation from the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Infrastructure, and the Ukrainian Energy Agency who visited our Indoor Climate section with Laura Holm and Pernille Hagedorn-Rasmussen from Danish Energy Agency. Here, Geo Clausen and Ongun Berk Kazanci presented the section's work on energy efficiency in buildings - focusing on how to create buildings that are both energy-efficient and optimize indoor climate to enhance well-being and productivity at work and in schools. 🌱🏠 During the visit, the Ukrainian guests had the opportunity to experience our very special DTU Airways cabine, where we test and optimize air quality on aircraft in "real life" settings and try a short stay in the "airtight" room where we can compare different indoor environments by controlling all indoor-related factors. A key takeaway from the visit was integrating indoor climate considerations when designing building energy solutions. It is estimated that the sector accounts for approximately 𝟯𝟳% 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗢𝟮 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 🌍💨 We need to 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀. At DTU Sustain, we educate future generations of engineers and researchers –teaching them about 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀 to empower them to 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 🌱🏡 🎓 𝗬𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 had their first day of the spring semester in the 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺, learning about construction materials.
