Royal visit in Copenhagen 🇩🇰 Today concludes the second and final day of the Dutch King’s visit to Denmark. Monday and Tuesday, HM King Willem-Alexander accompanied by HM King Frederik X did various site-visits in Copenhagen to companies and organisations in the green energy sector. Dutch Minister of Climate Policy and Green Growth, Sophie Hermans; Danish Minister of Climate, Energy, and Utilities, Lars Aagaard; Ambassador from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Denmark, Nienke Trooster; as well as our Ambassador Ulf Melgaard also participated during these insightful two days. Importantly, a number of Dutch and Danish companies have signed a declaration on green hydrogen in the presence of HM King Willem-Alexander and HM King Frederik X. Manufacturers in Denmark and buyers in the Netherlands are calling for a hydrogen pipeline between the countries to be secured by 2030 at the latest; and further, to create the necessary framework conditions that can make Northern Europe a hub for green hydrogen and Power-to-X fuels 🌱 The Dutch King’s visit to Denmark not least represents the close relationship between the Netherlands and Denmark but also the commitment to expanding renewable energy and hydrogen production which can make Europe free of fossil energy sources 🙌🏽 © RVD #dkinnl #tradecouncil #kongehuset #greenenergy #greenenergytransition #greenhydrogen #powertox

Shaping the future of obesity management 🏥 Last week, Ambassador Ulf Melgaard hosted a roundtable meeting at the Residence of Denmark which was centered around obesity prevention and treatment. Leading capacities in healthcare, policy development, and research discussed advancements in patient care, treatments, and the evolving role of policy in addressing the growing obesity epidemic. The session’s discussions were influenced by two central questions: 📄 What societal adjustments and policy changes are necessary to manage obesity in the Netherlands and Denmark? 🔎 How can we together, effectively, give this rising challenge the necessary attention? We shared good stories and ideas from both Denmark and the Netherlands by addressing obesity in a broad way. Cooperation, coordination, and trust are important factors for moving forward while ensuring a multifaceted approach to this disease. Thank you to all participants for your valuable contributions to this vital conversation! Today, Ambassador Ulf Melgaard hosted the #CEONetwork at the Residence of Denmark. The session’s guest speaker was Diederik Samsom, currently Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Gasunie. As former leader of the PvdA and Chef de Cabinet of former EU Commissioner Frans Timmermans, Diederik Samsom gave an encouraging talk in which he highlighted the economic strategy incorporated in the EU’s Green Deal. He further commented on recent international and national political events: 🌱 Being extremely crisis resistant, the EU’s Green Deal together with the Draghi Report should be the most important tools for the EU and especially European business to support political ambitions in the future. 💡 With the US President-Elect in mind, Samsom encouraged business to keep investing and innovating. 🌐 On a national level, the green energy transition still has major challenges which call for huge investments, expansion of the infrastructure, and the increase of using smart digital solutions. In conclusion, business has an important role to play on a European level. Putting energy efficiency and the heating transition to the forefront ⚡️ Many municipalities across Europe are facing similar challenges in transforming their built environment to a sustainable, energy efficient, and carbon neutral building stock. To foster knowledge exchange and provide insight into local practices, our energy coordinator Jessica Appelmann and Line Victoria Blirup Jensen from Energistyrelsen organised a study trip to Denmark for Dutch civil servants 🏙️ The study trip showcased local efforts in Danish municipalities through various site visits to sustainable and energy efficient building environments and offered the opportunity to discuss best practices in the heating transition. Here are some of the highlights from the trip: 🫱🏽🫲🏼 ProjectZero in Sønderborg: The city wants to become carbon neutral by 2029 and has been referred to as “the global capital of energy efficiency”. The project demonstrates that partnerships are key for ensuring local support, i.e. public-private partnerships between the municipality and local businesses as well as between the municipality and residents. 🔥 Egtved Varmeværk: The group learned about the workings of a district heating cooperative on-site. Heat sources such as solarthermal panels, heat pumps, biomass boilers, electric boilers, gas engines, and gas boilers are used in combination to always provide heat as cost-efficiently as possible. 🌱 Aarhus Kommune: The city of Aarhus has a goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030. The city’s energy efficiency efforts showcase the benefits of collecting detailed data on the energy and water consumption of their municipal buildings for energy management, enabling them to reduce consumption accordingly. Thank you to all participants and experts for making this trip a success! If you are interested in taking part in future activities on energy efficiency in buildings, keep an eye on this page or reach out to Jessica Appelmann at jesapp@um.dk.
