“Good ideas must become good solutions.” 💡➡️🔧 For the past decade, this has been the mantra of DTU Skylab - Copenhagen’s Technical University innovation hub. Last week, the French Foreign Trade Advisors - Denmark had the opportunity to learn and exchange ideas about the startup world 🌍. We started with a keynote from Thomas Norman Canguilhem our very own entrepreneur, who shared the evolution of startups over the past 30 years. His experience with various startups, including EcoTree International gave us valuable insights. From the birth of the web to today’s personalization trends driven by data extraction and AI, startups are defined by their innovation mindset, the passion to test and learn, and hard work to satisfy users. 🚀 From day one, the focus is on securing funding and scaling—not profitability—showing how startups inspire more traditional organizations to adapt to the fast-changing work culture. More and more, value creation becomes immaterial, built on interfaces and consumer data. Sometimes, crazy ideas turn out to be pure genius 💡. The Nordics have much to inspire France, with 65 unicorns 🦄 vs. France’s 26. So, what’s the secret? Peter Munkebo Hussmann Head of Operations at DTU Skylab shared that Denmark’s strong innovation ecosystem, financial support, and the international focus of Nordic startups give them an edge. The region’s limited fear of failure, backed by a welfare safety net and an education system that embraces learning through failure, also plays a key role. DTU Skylab itself has thrived during Covid, thanks to the A.P. Møller Fonden support, hosting up to 100 student and researcher startups with access to space, partnerships, and educational support. We were also impressed by pitches from Yngvik (next-gen packaging) and PhytoCuro (microalgae innovation) 🌱. The future of innovation is bright! 🌟 Thank you, Thomas Norman Canguilhem and DTU Skylab, for this inspiring and insightful visit. #Innovation #Startups #DTUSkylab #Learntogether #Foreigntrade #Entrepreneurship #NordicStartups #TechInnovation #Sustainability #FutureOfWork #Copenhagen #AI #Unicorns #TechTrends #Jimpacte #MissionCCE Christophe Parisot Guillaume Lasnier Linda TIBBITS Clémentine Lyngsø Christophe Mugnier-Pollet Guillaume Lebas Joëlle Laïk Caroz Anita Wagner Feddersen Kim Ginnerup Maxence de Dreuille Luc Joncour Renaud Chevalier-Cadell Alexis Philippon Julien Bergere Mathieu Girardin Benjamin Duval Benjamin Breton sébastien bliaut Samuel VAILLANT JØRGENSEN Anouk Reynaud

🇫🇷 Decarbonization Talk with a Sea View 🇩🇰 Last week, DFDS welcomed the French foreign trade advisors to their magnificent office for an insightful discussion on decarbonization 🌱. 💡 Mathieu Girardin head of DFDS's ferry division, kicked off the event. He provided a comprehensive overview of DFDS's diverse operations, highlighting the 65 ferries in their fleet, ranging from passenger to freight services. The focus on green transition was evident, with a plan targeting 2030. DFDS is exploring solutions such as electric vehicles, ammonia, and methanol. While the green revolution is underway, technological and capacity constraints are challenges to accelerating progress. 💡 Next, Anaïs Boulay a decarbonization specialist at Cargill, shared valuable insights from her work at The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping. She noted that there are 100,000 commercial vessels globally, contributing 3% of CO2 emissions compared to 10% from road transport. With international regulations tightening in 2030 and 2050, industries are compelled to adopt a test-and-learn approach to find solutions. The upcoming ETS (Emission Trading System) taxes in 2025 provide a financial incentive for companies to act. Collaboration is key to overcoming these challenges. 💡 Finally, Sophie-Kim Chapman Head of the Decarbonisation team at DFDS, outlined the company’s specific strategies. Her team became independent from the sustainability team last year, highlighting the growing importance of decarbonization. She emphasized that the green transition for road transport is progressing faster than for sea freight, with 115 e-trucks already in operation. Clear targets and incentives, such as bonuses across functions, play a crucial role in driving these initiatives. Together, we can accelerate the green transition. Let’s unite our efforts and make sustainable shipping a reality. Join us in this journey towards a greener future 🌱. He reminded us that Denmark is one of the contributing markets, with a positive balance once more in 2023—we can be proud!🙌 The discussion was enriched by the interventions of key partners: the President of the Territorial Attractiveness Commission, Gilles WIDAWSKI and VP Elisabeth L. From championing networking opportunities to advocating key policies and providing legal counsel, DI empowers both big corporations and small enterprises alike. Jens's vision is to position Denmark as the premier destination for international collaborations, among other fostering robust business ties between French and Danish enterprises. With exciting initiatives underway, like the upcoming Olympic Games delegation in Paris, comprising 50 esteemed members of Denmark's leading companies. The emphasis on sustainability was mentionned, underscoring the shared values between our countries. Delving into Denmark's economic landscape, Jens underscored its favorable position while acknowledging the challenges posed by labor shortages amidst historically low unemployment rates since 2000.
