Two days ago Lars Ravn Nielsen had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from USA and Canada on a "fact finding tour". Among the visitors was Vinnie Bevivino, Senior director of organics at Bioenergy Devco. Here is his thoughts about the tour around the pretreatment facility Gemidan A/S Odense "The first was an amazing stand-alone food waste repackaging and slurrying facility operated by Gemidan. Incredibly well operated, clean, and efficient. They’re depackaging about 250 tons per day of source separated organics from residential and commercial sources. Their technology can depackage all food wastes, including food in glass. The material you see being dumped in green bags is from a transfer station that collected residential food waste. Danes don’t compost food waste, it’s all digested for energy. Compost facilites are reserved for yard waste and other woody materials."

Ever wondered where your carefully sorted bio-waste ends up? In Denmark, it will often find its way to biogas facilities like these pictured below, that converts it into green energy. Today, the embassy’s energy team, along with an Italian delegation, had the pleasure of visiting biogas plants operated by Nature Energy and Gemidan Ecogi A/S —leading companies in biogas technology and development. Biogas is a crucial resource for reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Regonizing its importance, the Italian government has allocated substantial resources for advancing its biogas industry in the coming years. Advanced Danish biogas solutions, as those showcased today, offer promising potential to help drive this Italian ambition forward. Also, thank you to DI - Dansk Industri and State of Green Denmark for hosting us and sharing insights into the Danish energy and biogas model.
