  • Thank you, Dr. Shu Yuan Yang. Your research in how to scale up and increase efficiency of PLA degradation is contributing tremendously to the optimal solution for the closed loop systems we're establishing. We are looking forward to the next steps on this journey

As part of the collaboration between GrønBlå A/S and my research team, I was fortunate to be able to participate in the launch of GrønBlå’s model of closed-loop resource management for the starch-based bioplastic PLA. During the four-day event of UCI Cycling World Championship this past weekend near Copenhagen, GrønBlå supplied all the 100% compostable PLA- and paper-based foodware served at the Ballerup Super Arena │ Idrætsby, and the waste was collected and undergoing composting as we speak! This will return precious resources back to the soil and aligns much better with sustainability principles. The estimated amount of material saved from incineration and getting converted to fertilizer is: 1+ ton of PLA bioplastic 600+ kg of paper Pretty good for a kick-off event! We will continue to work hard to optimize the procedure so that we can up the scale of this process and conserve more resources! And shoutouts to our other partners, SOLSERV, for providing smart composting equipment and designs, and Olympic Champion Lasse Norman Leth, whom for his enthusiasm, has been the perfect brand ambassador. • Reducing 1.5 tons plastic waste and 630 kg paper products with PE coating didn't sound a lot. But this is just an event. Fighting against the single use plastic and manage our waste, this is our first baby step.

Hosting the 2024 Union Cycliste Internationale World Championship at Ballerup with a strong sustainability focus is a significant step toward reducing plastic waste in large-scale events. The participation of 20,000 attendees and the successful use of compostable materials instead of plastic or coated paper products is a notable environmental milestone. We supplied 60,000 beer cups, 10,000 knives, 10,000 forks, 2,960 wine glasses, 25,000 coffee cups and lids, 10,000 salad bowls, 10,000 hot dog plates, and 9,000 sandwich bags, all composted alongside leftover food, showcases a remarkable effort in waste reduction. By diverting over 1.5 tons of plastic and 630 kg of paper from being burned or sent to landfills, the event has set a new standard for plastic-free events. Acknowledging that some non-compostable materials still entered the venue is a realistic perspective and demonstrates a commitment to learning and improving for future events. This first experiment is a strong foundation for reaching the ultimate goal of 100% plastic-free events. It's a great example of step-by-step progress toward sustainability, and it's exciting to see how this approach can evolve in future events. #plasticfree #Ballerup2024 #TrackCycling #solserv

Happy that Grønblå is starting to prove our solution at 2024 UCI Track World Championship. Since beginning, as an ex-bike manufacturer, how to eliminate the waste was always something in my mind. And nowhere is better than the world class cycling event to be our start , showing how we turn our product into fertilizer and eliminate the plastic waste. We, as a team, also got a lot of valuable experience and we are ready for our next step. More to come Thanks for all the interest in our solution during the event. There are so many great partners helping all these and make things happen. Thanks to everyone for making this possible. 10 years ago it was just a dream. Now finally it is becoming reality.

  • 🌍 Did you know that Bio-Degradable products are not necessarily green?  🍽️ With the rise of sustainability, many companies are pushing "eco-friendly" products, but some claims mislead consumers into thinking products are greener than they are. 🌱 One major area of confusion is bio-Degradable vs. bio-Compostable tableware. Here's the key difference: Bio-degradable: These products break down over time but might leave behind microplastics or harmful residues. There are no strict time limits for degradation, meaning they may not fully disappear under typical conditions. Bio-compostable: These are held to a higher standard. Compostable products decompose fully and safely into compost within a specific timeframe, usually under controlled conditions. They turn into CO2 and H2O, and leave no toxic waste or microplastics behind. When choosing sustainable products, it’s important to know these differences. And don’t worry, the products of GrønBlå A/S are of course 100% bio-compostable and turn to a natural fertilizer within 2 months. 🌿 #Sustainability #GreenTransition #Greenwashing #WasteSorting

  • That might get expensive: The EU is getting serious with regulations against single-use plastic. The festival "Tomorrowland" faces fine of up to €2 million for using disposable cups. The largest electronic dance music festival in the world will be fined for committing an environmental offence, the Department of the Environment confirmed. It used disposable cups this summer, despite the legal obligation to use reusable ones. 🌍 PS: Anyone who takes a closer look at the issue of plastic waste knows that a large proportion of the plastics used today are not recycled at all but end up in landfill sites or are incinerated. This is precisely where GrønBlå, founded by Jayu Yang in 2021, comes in with its circular concept for composting plastics.
