UNITY AND CAMARADERIE THROUGH A TASTING OF A GREAT WHISKIES   Earlier this month, Halfspace - an AI company had the pleasure of having Dennis from Smagning.com visit us and give us an exciting tour through the world of Whisky!   Dennis brought along six of his good friends from various countries, so that we could sample whiskies from all over the world with stops in Ireland, Australia, India, and Scotland.   Through two hours of history, anecdotes and a lot of great whisky, both weary newcomers and malty veterans forged in the pits of Islay, got to experience a wide variety of whisky to broaden their knowledge and tastebuds.   At Halfspace we promote employee-driven social activities, and spending a few hours in cozy company with a nice dram on a cold evening, is just one of many ways of getting to know your colleagues on er more personal level to increase cooperation, camaraderie and shared experiences.

HALFSPACE COUNTER-STRIKE SOCIAL CLUB WINS FIRMA: CS DIVISION II At Halfspace - an AI company, we have several social clubs, one of which is our Counter-Strike team, the Halfspace CS:2 Social Club. Last night, the team clinched the Division II title in FIRMA:CS, defeating HMF Group. FIRMA:CS is Denmark’s premier corporate Counter-Strike league, known for bringing together company teams from across the nation to compete in multiple divisions based on skill level. The league promotes camaraderie and healthy competition among professionals who share a passion for gaming. The Halfspace CS:2 Social Club was actually invited to participate in this year’s Division I, but as Svend Lund Breddam says: “We’re pretty good, but if we’d played in the highest division, we would have been annihilated. It would have required us to train much more, and even though we have a few highly rated players (2K+ ELO, top 0.1%), we knew we would face strong competition in Division II as well, and at the same time have a lot of fun. We have had many colleagues following us on the stream whenever we’ve played, and although we’re only 75 people at the company, it really makes for a good, fun, social activity on a dark, boring weekday evening, where a lot of our colleagues are commenting in our Halfspace chat, with lots of fun comments” A big congrats to our Counter Strike Social Club Video: Team member Anton - in big trouble during one of the heats in the final, alone against a full team of opponents (5 vs. 1). BRIDGING RESEARCH AND INDUSTRY! This week, our Chief Scientist Pierre Pinson gave a talk to the whole team at Halfspace - an AI company, based on his research at Imperial College London, but also based on his 20+-year experience working with forecasting and decision-making with various stakeholders within academia, industry and government. With the rush towards using more data, doing more analytics and pushing for more AI, we now have the possibility to produce forecasts for nearly everything. Forecasts are always wrong (common say) – so, how to make optimal decisions based on these forecasts if we cannot trust them? It is a combination of understanding the decision-maker’s problem, generating the right forecasts, and accepting to make decisions under uncertainty. Our Founding Partner and CEO, Claus Bek Nielsen, added to Pierre's talk: "Drawing from my own experience in professional gaming, we always aim to not only calculate the most certain outcome, but to assess the risk of all individual outcomes, and how this affects the expected reward. THE HALFSPACE MENTORSHIP PROGRAM II LAUNCHED! Last year, we launched our mentorship program, which received an a lot of interest from students. This year, we were thrilled to see even more applications, and yesterday afternoon we welcomed the new group of mentees — 14 ambitious students from various studies at DTU - Technical University of Denmark, Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen Business School, and IT-Universitetet i København. Over the next six months, these talented students will be mentored by five of our experienced team members at Halfspace - an AI company who will guide them through their career journeys and offer valuable insights to help them navigate their professional paths. In addition to one-on-one mentorship, the students will participate in a series of sessions designed to sharpen both their technical and non-technical skills. Kicking things off, our Senior Data Scientist, Katrine Arendt Rasmussen gave an insightful presentation on how we apply AI in the real world. Sharing key principles, best practices, and an overview of the tools we work with and what an AI project could look like.
