🌊 This Friday, we set sail for the stunning Orkney Islands! Known as a haven for wildlife, Orkney welcomes around a million seabirds throughout the year and is home to an impressive 15% of the world’s seal population. It's also the base of Orkney Islands Council Marine Services, who was a key partner in the Dual Ports project—a forward-thinking project aimed at decarbonizing Regional Entrepreneurial Ports and minimise their environmental footprint 🚢⚡. Enjoy your Fridays! #DualPorts #thisisthenorthsea #interreg

Social entrepreneurs are shaping a more inclusive society through innovative business models. And #Interreg has a role to play in this transformation! We’re excited to share insights from our dear former colleague, Hans Wevers, who is now a researcher and PhD student at the Open University Netherlands. Hans has co-authored two papers that explore the strong link between Interreg and social entrepreneurship. These papers highlight how cooperation across borders fosters inclusivity and innovation - and explore how the strength of Interreg can be harnessed to increase social entrepreneurship overall. The findings, though focused on Interreg cross-border programmes, offer valuable lessons for transnational initiatives like Interreg North Sea. Many North Sea projects are driving inclusiveness and social employment. For example: 🌾 SIRR: Boosting entrepreneurial skills in rural areas. 🚴♂️ SMALL: Promoting inclusive shared mobility. 🔦 Inno-Quarter: Helping young entrepreneurs to bring social innovations to market. A big thanks to Hans for shining a light on this important aspect of Interreg! This Friday we head to Raversijde, a part of the Flemish city Oostende. Riversijde is home to a pilot in the #InterregNorthSea project Manabas Coast and known for the Atlantik Wall. Oostende is a very old city dating back to the 9th-10th century. It is the largest coastal city in Belgium and goes under the name “City by the Sea”. Placed right at the North Sea is has a big and very beautiful beach. On the culinary front you can enjoy fresh fish, Belgian beer, and chocolate. A fun fact, you can play city golf several places and discover the city while doing it 😊

Snapshot of the WaterWarmth (Interreg North Sea) project: aquathermal energy updates & what's to come in 2025 The WaterWarmth (Interreg North Sea) project is making strides, with pilots moving towards operational status in 2025. A new quick scan tool, launching in early 2025, will help cooperatives assess the viability of aquathermal energy for their projects. Key challenges such as installation and permits are being addressed, while community engagement remains strong. These advancements are shaping a sustainable energy future with aquathermal energy leading the way. 👉 Check out their latest webinar : https://lnkd.in/dDBfq3Wr https://lnkd.in/dnTttR8a #ThisistheNorthSea #Aquathermal #EnergyTransition #Sustainability #Innovation
🌟Inspiring Week at TU Delft, Netherlands Last week, our amazing project team had the pleasure of visiting TU Delft for an inspiring and productive program. We started on Tuesday with a knowledge session on Aquathermal Energy, focused on exchanging expertise with citizen initiatives. This led to valuable questions and reflections, enriching our collective understanding and approach. Following that, we held our WaterWarmth project meeting, and what progress we’ve made! All partners have taken significant steps toward achieving the goals of our project. Updates were shared, for instance; the pilots are moving forward and are expected to be operational next year! We’re also thrilled about the upcoming quick scan tool, which will enable cooperatives and initiatives to quickly assess whether aquathermal energy is a viable energy source for their projects. This tool is set to launch by early 2025. Out in the field, much is happening - community meetings, feasibility studies, tackling installation challenges, and navigating permit applications. It was great to reconnect, share feedback, and take meaningful next steps together. There was, of course, time to explore the beautiful city of Delft and visit The Green Village, a living lab where various experiments with sustainable energy, recycling, and waste reduction are conducted in a real village setting. These include aquathermal energy, but also geothermal energy, solar power, and hydrogen. The visit was truly inspiring, motivating us to pursue energy independence with sustainability at its core. As the WaterWarmth project, we aim to play an active role in this journey! We left with ideas and valuable input to continue developing our project. Follow us to stay updated on the latest in aquathermal energy and its role in the energy transition! 🌍💧 Interreg North Sea Programme Provincie Fryslân #Aquathermal #EnergyTransition #Sustainability #Innovation
