In 2024, SMEs faced notable challenges, particularly in productivity growth, with marked differences observed between the United States, Europe, and Denmark. Productivity Growth: United States vs. Europe Between the fourth quarter of 2019 and the second quarter of 2024, labour productivity per hour worked increased by 6.7% in the United States, compared to a modest 0.9% in the euro area. This disparity highlights a significant productivity gap, with the U.S. demonstrating robust growth while Europe lags. Denmark's Productivity Performance Denmark has also experienced challenges in productivity growth in the European context. While specific 2024 data for Denmark is limited, the broader European trend suggests that Danish SMEs may face similar productivity constraints. Addressing these challenges is crucial for enhancing competitiveness and economic resilience. Global SME Challenges in 2024 In 2024, SMEs globally encountered several key challenges: Technological Adaptation: A significant number of SMEs reported difficulties in adopting new technologies, with 31% needing more technical skills to implement online sales strategies. #Economic #Pressures: Rising operational costs and wage pressures have led many SMEs to reduce hiring and sometimes face insolvency.
