GET THE INSIGHTS FROM THE PROJECT MASS CUSTOMISATION FOR CIRCULARITY The project Mass Customisation for Circularity is user-centered and based on data rather than solely on trends and assumptions about the consumer. By using data to develop and offer differentiated collections, brands can guide customers towards the part of the collection that matches their needs and potentially invite new customers in. "If we are closer to the consumers, we will know what should not be produced beforehand. Ideally, we only produce something already sold," says project manager Anne Louise Bang from the Trace project “Mass Customisation for Circularity”. THE TRACE PROJECT CIRCULARTEX LAUNCHES A GUIDE FOR PURCHASING UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE CircularTEX launches a circular guide for purchasing upholstered furniture in close collaboration with Master in Management of Technology, Aalborg Universitet, Gabriel, HOLMRIS B8, and CarpetCare. The central questions considered are: How can we help customers make more sustainable choices? What should you, as a buyer, facility manager, or other type of decision-makers, consider, if you want to support and develop the circular economy? What does this mean to future business models in production, design, and within the cleaning/repair/maintenance industry? CarpetCare, which has been with us all the way, says about the process: "Output and process have been enriching in all contexts and perspectives. We have become wiser about the manufacturer and dealership aspects, just as it has been beneficial to participate in a holistic project that has considered the systemic terms, but also focused on the guide being concrete and operational for users." Read more and download the guide in Danish or English: https://lnkd.in/e5GsMXCw Attend the launch of a circular guide for purchasing upholstered furniture. The event takes place in Aalborg on 20/9 at Frederik Bajers Vej 1. Register at bnors@create.aau.dk The guide will be freely available online after the event. ADJUST FASHION COMPANIES' PRODUCT DECELOPMENT AND GAIN REALISE SUBSTANTIAL BENEFITS CLIMATE ENVIRONMENT, ECONOMY AND COMSUMERS This is a message conveyed in this column in Wastetech, authored by three researchers involved in the MCC – Mass Customization for Circularity project under TRACE's textile initiative: Ulla Ræbild from Design School Kolding, Mette Terkildsen, VIA University College, and Else Skjold from the Royal Danish Academy. Poor fit in clothing stems from a lack of knowledge about customers' bodies and preferences, as well as the economic constraints under which the fashion industry currently operates. It is well understood that fit is the critical factor influencing customers' willingness to pay and to wear and care for their clothes longer. By adjusting fashion companies' product development to create more inclusive designs, substantial benefits can be realized for the climate, environment, economy, and consumers. This is crucial in a context where too much clothing is underutilized, return rates are high causing significant losses for retailers and companies, and the race to lower prices dominates an already pressured industry. We are excited to introduce this paper from the project ‘Blockchain, IoT and Resale’ https://lnkd.in/dmqjGn3X. The paper was first presented at the PLATE conference in Helsinki June 2023 and has now been published in a special issue of the esteemed International Journal of Sustainable Fashion and Textiles (https://lnkd.in/d2gKRkPp) edited by Kirsi Niinimaki Headed by the title: “Does Resale Extend the Use Phase of Garments? Exploring Longevity in the Fashion Resale Market”, PhD. Mette Dalgaard Nielsen and Associate Professor, PhD. Else Skjold from the Royal Danish Academy have asked the question whether resale extends the lifetime of garments or not. Through a ‘follow-the-garment’ netnographic approach that locates in-and-out flow of reseller wardrobes and resale platforms, the study analyses selected resale mechanisms that hinder or promote longer lifetimes of garments. The conclusion shows that resale does not in itself extend garment lifetime, but that it has huge potentials for doing so given the right circumstances. Several Danish fashion brands and resale platforms are involved in the study, amongst these Baum und Pferdgarten and Ganni A/S. RESEARCHERS INVENT 100% BIODEGRADABLE "BARLEY PLASTIC" AS PART OF TRACE-PROJECT A biofriendly new material made from barley starch blended with fibre from sugarbeet waste sees the light of day at the University of Copenhagen – a strong material that turns into compost should it end up in nature. In the long term, the researchers hope that their invention can help put the brakes on plastic pollution while reducing the climate footprint of plastic production.
