Ukrainian women rebuild their lives in Italy with ESF support
Two years on since the Russian military aggression on Ukraine, millions of Ukrainians are getting support to restart their lives in EU countries beyond the immediate border. Thanks to funding from the European Social Fund, the Italian project PUOI ("You can") is helping displaced people from Ukraine, to access the labour market through career guidance, job placement and traineeships.

ProFem 2.0, a centre for survivors of domestic and sexual violence from Czechia co-funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), is the winner of the 2023 REGIOSTARS award for the category ‘A social and inclusive Europe’.

EU project helps Ukrainian refugees starting their life in Germany
The project “Employment pilot for Refugees”, funded by the Cohesion’s Action for Refugees in Europe (CARE) initiative, takes place in the Länder of Rhineland-Palatinate. It focuses on helping people fleeing the war in Ukraine to overcome the many barriers they face upon arrival – such as the lack of childcare, the search for housing or a language courses.

Almost €100 million for supporting Ukrainian refugees in Bulgaria thanks to EU funds
Bulgaria welcomes a significant number of people fleeing the war in Ukraine and supports them with food, accommodation and basic material assistance, such as clothes or hygiene products. To fund these exceptional expenses, the European Union introduced the Cohesion’s Action for Refugees in Europe (CARE) initiative.

ESF+ project helps Ukrainian refugees rebuild their lives in Poland
The project ‘Przystań Centre for Social Integration in Łapy project’, co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF+), was initially developed to help unemployed Polish people to find work, having successfully helped 90 Polish residents find jobs. However, with the onset of war, it was expanded to support 20 Ukrainians who are rebuilding their life in Poland.

Council increases Cohesion Funds’ flexibility to support people fleeing from Ukraine
The Council adopted a package of legislative changes to step up support for EU governments and regions in managing the effects of Russia’s war in Ukraine, including hosting more Ukrainian refugees.

European funds help supporting Ukrainians refugees in Italy
The Lazio Region (Italy) is at the forefront of welcoming those fleeing conflict in Ukraine. The Region allocated €10 million of European Social Fund (ESF+) funding thanks to the flexibility allowed under the Cohesion’s Action for Refugees in Europe (CARE) and launched a call for project proposals to promote the integration of people who arrived from the war zone in Ukraine and are now living in the Lazio region.
