Earlier this month, we had an amazing visit to the Indianapolis Zoo! We presented our conservation project for the critically endangered Blue-throated Hillstar, a species we are dedicated to protect. We are honored to have won the Saving Species Challenge and are excited about the positive impact this partnership will have on the conservation of the Ecuadorian páramo. Financial sustainability needs nature to survive." – Frank Elderson Frank Elderson, Member of the Europäische Zentralbank delivered a bold statement in his keynote yesterday at the 10th Green Finance Forum in Frankfurt’s Steigenberger Hotels and Resorts. Under the motto "Innovate in Nature", this flagship event of the 27th Euro Finance Week by dfv Euro Finance Group GmbH—once again masterfully orchestrated by Andreas G. Scholz and his team, with omnipresent conference manager Lucas Walter—highlighted the urgent need for action on #ESG issues. An eye-opening moment came from Martin Schaefer, Director of the NGO Fundación de Conservación Jocotoco, who explicitly addressed the use of #AI. While there was a clear call for innovation and technology, it became evident that the national startup scene is still not fully on the financial sector’s radar—despite its immense potential. This made Syenah GmbHs #ESGSentinel platform a key talking point during networking breaks and informal discussions. Our #realtime #ESG risk and incident detection solution demonstrated that groundbreaking innovation can also be affordable. For #financialinstitutions as well as #corporates navigating the requirements of the LkSG, it’s a testament to how innovation can drive both compliance and impact. The forum’s key takeaway was unmistakable: time is crucial. Mein Lieblingszitat vom heutigen Green Finance Forum (shoutout an Martin Schaefer von Fundación de Conservación Jocotoco). 🌱 Neben einigen ernüchternden Fakten und Entwicklungen (COP 16 🫠) gab es auch viele inspirierende Panels und spannende SpeakerInnen. #Sostenibilidad l La Fundación de Conservación Jocotoco fue reconocida por el zoológico de Indianápolis como la organización ganadora del Saving Species Challenge por el proyecto presentado para “salvar al colibrí estrella de garganta azul”, que actualmente está en peligro crítico de extinción. El estrella de garganta es una especie que habita en un área restringida de los Andes occidentales en el sur de Ecuador, entre las provincias de El Oro y Loja. La Unión Internacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza lo ha clasificado en peligro crítico, principalmente por la pérdida de hábitat causada por la minería y los incendios forestales frecuentes. 🌍 Protecting nature is essential: Our Co-Founder Martin Schaefer gave an interview to FAZ about the $1M grant from the Indianapolis Zoo to save the critically endangered Blue-throated Hillstar in Ecuador. The Blue-throated Hillstar, one of the world’s rarest hummingbirds with only about 100 left in the wild, faces a critical risk of extinction. Fundación de Conservación Jocotoco, led by Martin Schaefer, is dedicated to protecting this species—a mission recently empowered by the Indianapolis Zoo's $1 million grant through its Saving Species Challenge. This effort underscores that effective nature conservation is not a luxury but a pressing necessity.
