🌐 100 years ago, the World Energy Council community was established by visionary leadership that recognised the task and challenge of rebuilding energy systems to deliver peace. Daniel Dunlop, the Council founder, wanted to go beyond creating a purely technical institution. He told a friend: “I always had in mind the idea of enlarging this body of engineers to a body of experts of all branches of industry and agriculture.” The emphasis on convening truly global hearts, minds and hands continues to empower the Council’s mission and vision today. 🌍 Urgent action is required to redesign the world's energy systems to advance clean and inclusive energy transitions. But what does progress look like in a radically changing energy landscape? How do we ensure we stay on track and are able to navigate the multiple energy transitions pathways emerging globally? The World Energy Trilemma Framework was developed by our community nearly 20 years ago to do just this by tracking country performance against three critical dimensions: energy security, affordability and sustainability. The Trilemma is evolving now to best reflect contemporary energy systems and the challenges we all face. 🎉Did you know that the World Energy Congress has been held on almost all continents in its 100-year history?🎉   Its origins date back to shortly after the First World War, when visionary Scotsman Daniel Dunlop decided to bring together leading energy experts to discuss current and emerging energy issues. Hosted in 22 cities all over the world, the World Energy Congress has since become a globally recognised and world-class stage for the global energy community.   Since its inception, the Congress has played a pivotal role in convening the global energy community and leadership to foster clean and inclusive energy transitions worldwide. More recently, the 2019 World Energy Congress in Abu Dhabi brought together over 18,000 attendees from 146 countries.
