Japanese government officials on Monday confirmed that the four foreign ministers are exploring the possibility of a meeting in Washington.
The meeting will underscore that the Trump administration is attaching importance to collaboration among the four nations amid the intensifying rivalry between the US and China in the Indo-Pacific region, according to reports in the Japanese media.
The foreign ministers are expected to discuss the possibility of holding a Quad summit of the leaders of the four nations at an early date, according to media reports. "The Trump administration's emphasis on Quad will have a significant impact on Indo-Pacific security," Akihisa Nagashima, special adviser to Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba, said in a post on X on Monday.
