Housing: Take exposure to a set of stocks rather than one; 13 stocks from the housing ecosystem, 7 with upside potential above 27% in 1 year
When you say “housing sector”, do you have any idea how many disparate companies come under that umbrella term? From the real estate company which buys and develops land, to ceramic companies whose tiles are used to give the final touches to a building, to the housing finance company that is the biggest enabler for the purchase of the house – and a whole host of other segments. And each segment has its own cycle of business. Which is why the housing sector is one where probably owning a whole chain of stock makes more sense than taking exposure to a single stock.
Retail investors lost interest in PSU stocks in Q2. Is it too early to sell?
Retail investors reduced their holdings in several PSU stocks during Q2 FY25 due to valuation concerns and election results. Despite the PSU index underperforming the Sensex over the past six months, some analysts remain optimistic about the sector's long-term prospects, citing government spending and growth in oil, gas, and utilities.
Auto OEM’s Q2 earnings outpace India’s Jul-Sep GDP, but why are stocks still lacking vigour?
Despite outperforming both Nifty and India’s GDP growth in Q2FY25, listed auto OEMs experienced lackluster stock performance, falling up to 21%. Factors include uneven earnings, changing consumer preferences, interest rate cut delays, and demand normalization. Market analysts offer mixed recommendations on auto and ancillary stocks. Stocks like Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki and Samvardhana Motherson are among preferred bets.
Time to shed fear & skepticism? 5 mid-cap stocks, where managements have seen many cycles, with an upside potential of up to 35%
An analysis of market breadth since October 1 reveals an interesting trend. Except when the entire street was under pressure, market breadth has been better on most days. This suggests that, while there was selling by FIIs, there was no panic among domestic retail investors. Even when the Adani issue hit the street last week, the reaction of the broader market clearly indicated that the underlying bias has changed. So the recovery was sharp and swift. Now, with a major event like the Maharashtra election behind us, the chances are that parts of the mid-cap segment will get their shine back. So is it time to shed fear and skepticism? Perhaps, but remember: There will be short-term volatility; and a major negative event on the global markets could impact the street.
BJP win in Maharashtra: Breather for Adani's $3-billion Dharavi project
For Adani, who is facing bribery charges in a US court, the scrapping of his pet Dharavi project would have been a big setback.
Housing: It is a chain rather than one industry; 13 stocks from housing ecosystem with an upside potential above 24%
In some sectors, owning a whole chain of stocks makes more sense than taking exposure to a single stock. A sector has many industries, and each has its own internal cycle. There are times when one segment of the sector might be facing problems. So, having exposure to a number of segments helps in diversification of the portfolio. It also helps you take better advantage of a sectoral bull run. Grasim shares slip 2% after Q2 PAT declines 66% YoY
Grasim Industries witnessed a 66% decline in Q2 consolidated net profit, reaching Rs 389 crore, despite an 11% surge in revenue, reaching Rs 33,563 crore. This downturn is attributed to reduced profit margins in the cement sector and initial investments in the 'Birla Opus' paint business.
Volatility is an opportunity, just combine it with checks and balances. 5 mid-cap stocks from different sectors with an upside potential of up to 43%
Few trading sessions back, the street was focused on auto stocks. A small miss in Q2 earnings and the stocks would decline sharply. On Monday, however, when a large automaker announced lower-than-estimated Q2 earnings, the stock still moved higher. The reason: Future projections were positive. Now understand this: The stock’s upmove is a reflection of market sentiment and promise. The management narrative, even if overly optimistic, is about fundamentals. And it is fundamentals which deliver earnings. So whether the Nifty is at X or Y levels is of little relevance if one is investing. What matters is the business – specifically its earnings.

These large-caps have ‘Strong Buy’ & ‘Buy’ recos and an upside potential of more than 25%
It is often said the market tends to revert to its mean. That is about the stock market moving down to catch up on its averages, But in the last few years, the scenario has been different. The market moves to a new high, stays in range-bound mode, and then moves higher – making a new mean higher than the previous one. There will be phases when the markets will correct, and if one is looking to deploy fresh money, it would be better to put a major chunk into large-caps as there is still valuation catch-up which is likely to happen in this space. ET Screener, powered by Refinitiv’s Stock Report Plus, lists quality stocks with high upside potential over the next 12 months, having an average recommendation rating of “Buy” or "Strong Buy". The screener applies different algorithms for all BSE and NSE stocks.
