    Cyclone Dana: Flight, train services resume in Kolkata

    Flight operations resumed at Kolkata airport on Friday morning after cyclone Dana completed landfall in Odisha. Train services in the south section of the Sealdah Division also restarted. Heavy rains and gusty winds affected parts of southern West Bengal. Several trains were cancelled by the South Eastern Railway in response to the cyclone.

    Two persons were killed and 20 others injured as at least 18 coaches of the Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed in Seraikela-Kharsawan district early on Tuesday, officials said. The accident occurred at 3.45 AM near Barabamboo, around 80 km from Jamshedpur, under Chakradharpur Division of the South Eastern Railway (SER), they said.

    Kurmi stir: 11 trains cancelled, 12 diverted in Jharkhand, Odisha

    Several trains have been cancelled and diverted in Jharkhand and Odisha due to an indefinite rail blockade called for by Kurmi organizations. The blockade is being held to demand Scheduled Tribe status for the community and the inclusion of Kurmali language in the Constitution. The South Eastern Railways and East Coast Railways have cancelled and diverted multiple trains as a precautionary measure. Kurmi organizations from Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha will participate in the blockade, with thousands of people from the Kurmi community expected to take part.

    Balasore accident aftermath: Railways transfers top officers of SER, calls it routine

    The railways on Thursday shunted out five top officials of the South Eastern Railway, including those responsible for operations, signalling and safety, weeks after a triple train accident killed more than 280 people in Balasore district in Odisha. Though the railways called these "routine" transfers, the action was being seen as a fallout of the worst train tragedy in nearly three decades in the country.
