Deep diving into our Deeptech Batch again! 🤿 Let us introduce FUNKI - a startup that turns starch-rich side-streams into high-value #proteins with the help of #mycelium. 👨🌾 Tell us a bit about your startup & the problem it aims to solve. What inspired you to start this company? 🟢 At FUNKI Foods, we have set out to save the planet, one bite at a time. Food systems have to change to sustain the world’s population. We know from professional experience that plant-based proteins will go a long way in changing the system, but they have their limitations across taste, texture, nutrients, and price. 🟢 Cultivated meat is promising as a consumer-friendly solution, but it’s hard to see how it will become economically competitive. Mycoprotein is the silver bullet that has the right taste and mouthfeel properties, is economically viable and can be adopted quickly, especially if worked into hybrid meat products. 🌍 How does your technology contribute to environmental sustainability? Mycoprotein is probably the most #environmentally and #economically efficient way to produce protein. If we can substitute even a fraction of global meat consumption with mycoprotein, the environmental savings would be immense. 🤝 Gratitude to mentors & supporters! We take a very partnership-oriented and results-oriented approach to bringing mycoprotein to the market. The partnership is said to combine deepmath’s expertise in modelling with HelioRec | BCorp’s advancements in offshore solar to create resilient and efficient floating solar solutions. 🌊 This partnership reflects the growing interest in marine-based renewables, particularly as companies look to offshore solutions to support global clean energy targets, deepmath noted. According to deepmath, deployment in marine environments brings its own engineering complexities, such as ensuring structural stability against wind, wave, and current forces. We interviewed another superstar of our current deeptech batch - CLYZA! It’s a startup developing a disruptive solution for the #semiconductor industry to replace #graphite with recyclable metal carbide crucibles for the growth of silicon carbide. 🌍 What inspired you to start this company? Almost four years ago, everything started with a bold idea to launch Silicon Carbide (SiC) production in Estonia. SiC became the cornerstone of our journey due to its significant impact on reducing energy consumption and helping save our planet.
