Meie esimene videoepisood! Head kuulamist! 🐣 #estonianmafia #gritpodcast

We are proud to welcome Dr. med. Richard Krüger to the CARÁ Health team! Alongside Liina Rajasalu, he now forms our medical board of physicians specializing in gynecology and obstetrics. Let us tell you a bit more about Richard. Dr. Richard Krüger, a physician specializing in gynecology and obstetrics, brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for empowering expectant parents to CARÁ. His medical career began at Charité in Berlin, one of Germany’s most renowned maternity clinics and a Perinatal Center Level 1. It was here that he gained invaluable insights into maternity care, which inspired him to write his book, “In der Geburtsklinik” (“In the Maternity Clinic”). The book translates complex medical processes and decision-making into clear, understandable language for parents-to-be, helping them feel informed and confident. Currently, Richard works at the Bielefeld-Mitte Clinic, where his work encompasses gynecological oncology, urogynecology, and breast health, in addition to overseeing births. For Richard, gynecology is a calling, combining science with some of the most emotional and meaningful moments in people’s lives. He often says, “Welcome to the most beautiful specialty in medicine: gynecology and obstetrics!” Richard’s connection to CARÁ stems from his personal and professional experiences. As he explains, “Pregnant women and parents often face an overwhelming flood of information—sometimes conflicting—from family, friends, and professionals. If even I felt overwhelmed during my own journey into parenthood, I can only imagine how others must feel.” This realization motivated him to contribute to CARÁ’s mission of providing clear, well-founded, and consistent guidance. What particularly impressed Richard about CARÁ was its commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and its ability to present medical knowledge in diverse formats—texts, podcasts, videos, and interactive tools. “Medical information should be as unique and adaptable as the women and families it serves,” he says. By catering to different learning preferences, CARÁ ensures that knowledge is accessible and empowering for everyone. Joining CARÁ is a natural fit for Richard, who is excited to contribute to its vision of making reliable, compassionate support available to women and families at every stage of their journey. “Empowering parents with knowledge reduces stress and creates a more positive pregnancy experience” he emphasizes. Through CARÁ, he aims to help expectant mothers and their families navigate this life-changing period with confidence and care.

CEO of CARÁ Health - Estonian HealthTech Startup of 2023 | Innovating in Female Health and Well-being | Advocate for Digitalisation in Maternity Care

Over the past few years, there have been an increasing number of McKinsey reports focused on female health and femtech. The report I am sharing today focuses on women’s health and the $1 trillion opportunity to improve lives and economies. Here are a few key takeaways: Economic Impact & Return on Investment: Closing the health gap women face could add at least $1 trillion to the global economy by 2040, increasing the average per capita GDP generated by women by 1.7%. The return on investment in women’s health is compelling—every $1 invested can generate approximately $3 in economic growth. Pregnancy Complications & Chronic Illnesses: Conditions like gestational hypertension and gestational diabetes can significantly increase the risk of chronic illnesses later in life. Prioritizing maternal health not only benefits the mother and baby but also has long-term health implications. Health Equity: True health equity means ensuring that every individual, regardless of their background, has access to the right healthcare interventions. For women, this begins with understanding and accessing the best outcomes for their unique health needs. Data Gaps in Maternal Health: A lack of comprehensive data, especially in low- and middle-income countries, hinders our ability to provide adequate healthcare services for pregnant women and new mothers. This data gap makes pregnancy and childbirth more dangerous and complicates policy prioritization. Access & Affordability Challenges: Women often face barriers related to healthcare costs. For example, on average, Swiss women pay more than 12 percent extra for supplementary hospital insurance, with greater disparities in specific age groups.
