It is all about giving back! One of our own, Serhat hared his thoughts on this topic! Check it out! 👇 👇 👇
General Partner @ Venture Capital & Angel Investor | Seed-Stage European Origin US Focus High Growth Technology Startup Investor
Mentoring founders is something I prioritize, even when it doesn’t always fit perfectly into my schedule. Why? Because it’s not just about giving back—it’s about the mutual value. I gain so much from these conversations: 🔹 The energy and passion of founders is contagious. 🔹 I learn about the latest industry trends and new ideas. 🔹 I get the opportunity to follow founders early in their journey—long before they’re ready for investment—building relationships that are invaluable as they grow. Finding that “perfect company” to invest in at the perfect time is rare. But by engaging with founders early on, I can watch them evolve and really get to know how they build their businesses. It’s one of the best uses of my time as an investor and mentor. 🐘 Why Culture Matters—Even for Teams of Two A lesson I always share is that company culture is everything, even if it's just you and a co-founder. It’s the foundation of your business, and it’s much easier to establish when your team is small. Once you get past 5-6 people, it becomes harder to mold, and if you wait too long, it can be difficult to change or fix. Here’s why it’s crucial: 🔸 Good culture can make even a bad idea work, but the reverse isn’t true. 🔸 Your culture drives how your team works together, stays motivated, and navigates challenges. 🔸 If you focus on culture early, it will grow naturally as your company scales. 🔑 Never Outsource Hiring Early On When it comes to building that culture, never outsource your hiring—at least not until your company has grown to 50-60 people. Here’s why: 👉 Every hire impacts your culture, especially early on. 👉 At 50 employees, one wrong hire is 2% of your company! 👉 A bad hire can spread negativity, affecting team morale and productivity. Hiring the right people—and knowing when to let go of the wrong ones—is one of the most important aspects of building a healthy, thriving culture. 📄 I’ve written two articles long time ago that explore these topics more deeply: 1️⃣ 6 Lessons on Hiring Your First Employee: https://lnkd.in/gvmxDxMw 2️⃣ How to Mentally Prepare to Fire Your First Employee: https://lnkd.in/g9SVyYAp 🐘 Why Elephants as image? I’ve chosen an image of elephants for this post because they symbolize the power of strong social dynamics and teamwork. Elephants are known for their deep bonds, loyalty, and the way they support one another, much like a well-built company culture. In a startup, just like an elephant herd, each individual’s role matters, and together they create something stronger than the sum of their parts. It’s a reminder that culture is the backbone of any successful venture, especially when you’re just starting out. 🧠 For the founders out there: How have you shaped your company culture from the ground up? #startupculture #hireright #firefast
