2025 Community Industry Predictions
Let’s play the game 😄
🟣 “Community-led” loses its shine. By mid-2025, every SaaS, NGO, and tech company will plaster “community-led” on their LinkedIn banners.
By Q3, it’s so overused that brands start scrambling for the next buzzword. (Spoiler: it’s “ecosystem-driven.”)
🟣 The Great Slack Exodus. Communities abandon Slack en masse after another price hike.
Circle, Discourse, Discord, Khoros, Gainsight and custom platforms swoop in to capture the refugees. “Which platform?” debates dominate X threads, only to end with someone saying, “it depends.”
🟣 Human-less “communities” emerge. AI hosts, AI facilitators, and AI-generated discussions infiltrate digital spaces.
Some companies brag about 24/7 engagement while members quietly ask, “Wait… is anyone real here?”
🟣 The rise of “human-first” communities. Reacting to AI fatigue, niche groups promoting real human interaction flourish.
Membership perks? Zero bots, no algorithms, and yes—manual newsletters. Authenticity becomes the premium offering.
🟣 Gamification 2.0 flops. Communities go all-in on gamification—XP, badges, leaderboards—but members burn out.
They realise they’re essentially playing unpaid RPGs. Expect real-world rewards to make a comeback instead.
🟣 Content saturation backlash. With AI churning out millions of forum posts, blogs, and webinars, members start tuning out.
Quality-over-quantity curation becomes the survival strategy for savvy community builders.
🟣 Community professionals = rockstars. Just like “growth hackers” in the 2010s, top community managers will become industry celebrities.
Everyone will want one, but good luck finding someone who hasn’t already signed an NDA with a Fortune 500 brand.
🟣 “Distributed Community” becomes the new hotness. As remote work normalises, brands finally get creative.
Hybrid communities that integrate local meetups and global virtual events start dominating the space.
🟣 Governance gets serious. After the first public debacle of AI moderators enforcing nonsensical community guidelines, platforms panic.
They begin hiring “Community Governance Architects” to manage the mess. LinkedIn job boards explode.
🟣 2025’s viral event? A breakout community-led movement takes the spotlight—likely tied to sustainability, ethics, or post-AI workforce transformation. You know which movement we are taking here 😁
Its hashtag trends for weeks, inspiring thousands of copycats.
