🌊 A heartfelt thank you to Flavia Cavaliere for stepping in to represent Oceanogami at the roundtable, “From Policy to Action,” hosted by Plan Bleu as part of the Interreg Euro-MED Programme #Dialogue4Nature project. This important event in 🌞 #Málaga focuses on advancing policy solutions for marine and coastal restoration, a topic close to our hearts. 🌍💙 While I’m deeply honored to have been invited to this event, I’m unable to attend due to my commitment to another consultancy with SPA/RAC, organizing the #SPAMI workshop in Sicily 🇮🇹 during the exact dates. 💙 Flavia, your expertise and dedication will undoubtedly bring incredible value to the discussions. 🙌 Knowing this session will be interactive, with Constantin Tsakas moderating a dynamic panel, I’m confident the audience will benefit immensely from your insights. Thank you for carrying #Oceanogami’s voice forward and contributing to a sustainable blue future. 🌱✨ Wishing the Plan Bleu team and all participants a successful and impactful event! 🌍🌟 #Collaboration #BlueEconomy #OceanConservation #MarineRestoration #SustainableFuture #Teamwork #PolicyToAction #BlueGrowth #ClimateAction #MediterraneanEcosystems #OceanAdvocacy #ProtectOurPlanet

🌊 Why Should Companies Care About Marine Conservation and the Blue Economy? 🌊 Healthy oceans = Thriving businesses! Here’s how marine conservation benefits companies: 💰 Economic Power: The ocean economy generates $3 trillion annually, fueling industries like tourism, fishing, and shipping. Coral reefs alone add $36 billion to global tourism each year! 🌱 Climate Resilience: Supporting marine conservation helps mitigate climate change risks, which can impact global supply chains, energy costs, and operational stability. For example: Mangroves and seagrass lock carbon 10x faster than forests, combating climate risks. 🐠 Resource Security: Companies in sectors ranging from food production to pharmaceuticals can benefit from sustainable practices that ensure long-term resource availability. ✨ Brand Value: Consumers increasingly prefer environmentally responsible companies. Aligning with marine conservation initiatives enhances corporate reputation, attracts eco-conscious customers, and builds trust among stakeholders. 📈 Investment Edge: ESG-friendly businesses attract premium investors! Companies that support marine conservation demonstrate leadership in sustainability, attracting investments from ESG-focused funds and improving access to capital. Be a leader in the Blue Economy. 🌍 At #Oceanogami, we work to engage the private sector in the global sustainability agenda by closing the gap between their CSR programs and the ocean's needs. 🌊 What are SPAMIs, and why should you care about them? 🐠 SPAMIs are Specially Protected Areas of Mediterranean Importance, vital marine and coastal zones in the Mediterranean with significant ecological, scientific, cultural, or educational value. 🌍 They are established under the SPA/BD Protocol of the Barcelona Convention—an international treaty adopted in 1976 and revised in 1995 to protect the Mediterranean's marine and coastal environments. Today, there are 39 SPAMIs (as of 2023) recognized across the Mediterranean, covering a range of ecosystems. ✨ Main Objectives of SPAMIs: 🌱 Conservation of biodiversity: Safeguarding habitats like seagrass meadows, coral reefs, and marine caves that serve as nurseries for marine life. Protecting endangered species such as the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus), loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta), and Pinna nobilis, a threatened fan mussel species. 🔄 Sustainable management: Encouraging eco-tourism, sustainable fishing, and other low-impact activities to maintain ecosystem balance. Ensuring that human activities align with conservation goals to prevent habitat degradation. 🤝 Cooperation and collaboration: Facilitating transboundary conservation efforts between countries like Spain, Italy, Tunisia, and Greece. Sharing resources, knowledge, and research for effective marine management. ✨ Why SPAMIs Matter: They provide carbon sequestration benefits, helping mitigate climate change by protecting ecosystems like seagrass meadows, which can store up to 10 times more carbon per hectare than terrestrial forests. 🌱 Protecting SPAMIs strengthens resilience against climate impacts like rising sea temperatures and ocean acidification, which threaten biodiversity and livelihoods. SPAMIs include a variety of unique ecosystems, from wetlands and estuaries (e.g., the Gulf of Gabès in Tunisia) to underwater canyons and seamounts (e.g., the Alborán Sea in Spain). These areas act as biodiversity hotspots, crucial for maintaining the ecological health of the Mediterranean Sea. The management of SPAMIs often involves partnerships between Mediterranean countries, NGOs, and international organizations such as UNEP-MAP and IUCN. Together, these efforts aim to ensure long-term protection and sustainable use of marine resources for future generations. 💡 Fun Fact: The Mediterranean region accounts for 7% of the world’s marine biodiversity, despite representing only 0.7% of the global ocean surface—a clear indicator of its ecological importance! Oceanogami is proud to work in key consultancies that amplify awareness and foster action for marine conservation, working toward a healthier Mediterranean and beyond. 🌊✨ #OceanLiteracy #MPAs #ClimateAction #SustainableFuture #MarineBiodiversity #MediterraneanConservation #BluePlanet #SPAMIs #MarineProtection #SeagrassMeadows #EndangeredSpecies #EcoTourism

Did You Know 🐠 that Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) comprise only 7.5% of the world’s oceans? And yet, they play a crucial role in protecting marine biodiversity, supporting fisheries, and helping build resilience against climate change. 🌱 These areas act as safe havens for marine species 🐙 , giving ecosystems a chance to recover and thrive without the pressures of overfishing and pollution.🌊 But why does this matter for businesses? 🤔 👉 By sourcing responsibly and supporting MPAs, companies can ensure sustainable practices that benefit both the environment and their supply chains. Investing in ocean conservation isn’t just good for the planet; it’s a smart strategy that strengthens brand reputation, aligns with global sustainability goals, and meets the expectations of eco-conscious consumers. 🌍✨ Learn how supporting MPAs can benefit your business, protect marine life, and contribute to a sustainable future! 🌊💙 📩 Contact us to get started: consultancy@oceanogami.com #OceanLiteracy #MPAs #ClimateAction #SustainableFuture #ResponsibleSourcing #ProtectOurOceans #BlueEconomy #BiodiversityConservation #OceanResponsibility
