Reflecting on the recent Chemlink event, we were thrilled to attend an eye-opening seminar led by Eng. Mazen Al-Jaky, who delivered a powerful look into the cement industry’s challenges and opportunities. 🌍💼 Eng. Mazen kicked things off by addressing one of the sector’s biggest hurdles: the steep cost of energy, which represents the largest expense in cement production. He highlighted how alternative fuels, like RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) and pet coke, could help offset these costs—but also shared the practical limitations, such as the need for advanced RDF sorting systems. In addition to discussing energy solutions, Mazen gave us a behind-the-scenes look at the cement production process itself—from the raw materials and towering kilns to the intricate workings of the mills. What made his session truly memorable was his ability to connect industry practices directly to the engineering principles we studied in university. Thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer—concepts that once felt purely theoretical were suddenly brought to life. Thank you, Eng. Mazen Al-Jaky, for inspiring us to see our studies in a new light and helping us bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world application. We look forward to more sessions like this, which empower us to drive innovation in essential industries! 👏
