The other product of #Flax hackling process -in addition to long fiber sliver- is hackled tow. Usually, flax hackled tow (Also called machine tow) is resulted in natural color as a waste from the hackling process, then it could be carded into sliver for coarse count yarn spinning. We offer hackled tow fiber and hackled tow sliver both natural and bleached. Proudly, #Sematex is the main Egyptian supplier of bleached flax tow in the highest standards of quality. #Flax #Linen #Hackled_tow #Flax_tow #Flax_sliver #Egyptian_Flax

Hackled Flax sliver in high quality is the core of any efficient spinning process. Irregularities on the sliver during hackling -even if all the previous steps of material preparation were fulfilled ptoperly- can not be fixed during yarn spinning. That is why we are proud of the fact that #Sematex production of hackled flax sliver (30: 35gr/m) is very well-known among our customers worldwide because of its excellent regularity and high quality. #Flax #Linen #Egyptian_Flax #Flax_sliver

Sematex' Flax journey from field to yarn #4 : #Flax_Hackling The most important phase in the spinning of flax is the hackling process. Hackling is the preparation of flax fibres where the scutched flax is refined then carded into sliver shape using hackling pins in variable density before the actual spinning process. The production of hackling process is mainly hackled long flax fibers which are used in sliver making for spinning and also flax products for plumbing sealing use (in dolls/hanks shape) in addition to flax hackled tow (machine tow) which is considered as the waste of hackling process. It can be used for coarse yarn spinning besides many other technical applications. #Sematex #Flax #Egyptian_flax #Linen #Hackled_flax

Sematex' Flax journey from field to yarn #3 : #Flax_Scutching Scutching is considered the first actual step for spinning preparation. The fibres are cleaned from the small woody parts called "shives" that can be used for chipboard panels, for animal bedding...Etc. Then during scutching, Turbines crushe the pulled and retted flax stalks (stems) between two metal rollers so that parts of the stalk can be separated. The products of this process are scutched flax (long fiber), scutched tow (short fiber) and the waste. Below photos are of #Sematex scutched long flax fiber. #Flax #Egyptian_flax #Scutched_flax #linen

Sematex' Flax journey from field to yarn #2 : #Flax_Retting After finishing pulling process, flax pulled stems are immediately collected from the field and submerged in a special tank of water to let the bacteria present in the water, degrades the pectin and finally releases the fibers that' what #Water_Retting in Egypt means Similar to dew retting, this process must be monitored on at least a day-to-day basis to achieve the required fiber quality. Generally, water retting produces a more consistent fiber than dew retting because conditions remain constant throughout the process Below photos drive a long way back to history when water retting was performed in natural waters, such as lakes, dams, or slow-moving canals. The flax bundles would be weighed down with heavy stones or wood for about 1-2 weeks, depending on the water temperature and mineral content. Nowadays water retting in Egypt is conducted in modern retting tanks. #Flax #Egyptian_Flax #Linen

Sematex' Flax journey from field to yarn #1 : Flax_Pulling We've just finished pulling flax from our fields where the plant had lost their leaves keeping only stems in the soil. Flax is not cut, but rather pulled, to preserve the full length of these stems and enable us make the best use of them during scutching. Pulling mission accomplished💪🏻currently prepare for the next step. #Flax #Linen #Egyptian_flax #Flax_pulling

#HistoireDuLin #ÉgypteAntique #TextilesAncestraux #FibresTextiles Sources 📖 : Alliance for European Flax-Linen & Hemp Photo 📸 : Alliance for European Flax-Linen & Hemp
